On my way to a party

I've posted before about working in the alcohol industry and trying to stay sober. Over the past 2 years I've improved to only drinking once every week or two and keeping it away from holidays. Well, I've now gone 35 days with no drinking or smoking while continuing to travel and be constantly exposed to alcohol. Tonight is the big test. Flying to a big work related party tonight. I will not drink or smoke or otherwise indulge. I will be enjoying myself, talking with people and having a good time. This is a necessary step for me as I plan to be the guy who can be successful in this career while maintaining sobriety. I know I can do it!

Hi Dave how did the party go?
I hope you didn't feel too pressured to drink.
I know how people can be, especially when they've had a few themselves. @[email protected]

Thank you, I went to the party and all went well. Did freak out the bartender when I asked for a bottled water. People there were actually talking about the fact I don't drink. I didn't pay it any attention. Just participated in the activities, shook some hands, met some new people and left a little early. Feels great to lay down after and not worry about what I might have said or done. Was a good night

Good job, Dave. The old advice is, "Go a little late, leave a little early, and keep a (non-alcoholic) drink in your hand at all times."

Beautiful.

WTG - most of us have to avoid social situations where alcohol is served! You should be proud.

Alcohol trys to influence us even when we're not drinking. It's just poison in a bottle, treat it as such.
Good job Dave,

Good advise. I went to a business function a week ago and did just that.

Only one, "You're not drinking?" Answer: No. I'm not.

Over the years I've learned the vast majority of people simply don't care one way or the other.

It would be like me asking, "Would you like a slice of cake?"

And when I'm told no I think O.K. and forget about it.
