7-3-2016

I woke up that day from a blackout. One of the worst ones I've ever had. I had scrapes on my legs where I had fallin on some gravel that I have no memory of. I woke up just terribly sad and anxious and fearful. So of course the first thing I do is go for a drink to numb myself from this horror. Those were my last drinks. I cried out to God that day. But what made those prayers different was I was finally willing to take some action to stay sober. Simple steps. 8 months alcohol free tomorrow. It has been such a blessing. I feel better and my work product has improved 100%. This is not all sunshine and roses BUT it is compared to the endless despair I had while drinking. I have literally done this one day at a time. I stick close to God and I attend AA meetings weekly and I have a certain faith that if I stay sober I have endless beautiful possibilities. If I choose to go back to drinking I know it's going to be more and more hell. What do I have to lose?? Just step by step day by day...

congrats.

I remember where I was on 7-3-2016...on a family vacation at Virginia Beach. It was about 3 months before I got sober so I was at the tail end of my drinking career.

And that tail end was full of anxiety, panic, stress and a general awful feeling. Our family goes on a vacation every summer and over the last 20 years I did all the driving - but this last vacation I made my wife do most of the driving from Cleveland to Virginia Beach and back - my alcoholism was out of control and I was a mess.

7-3-2016 was not a good time for me!

Again congrats on 8 months.

I am. It is just a better quality of life even on my worst days. Happy 8 months to you! We are just truckin along :) I went to AA yesterday to get my chip and let them know I needed a sponsor and a lady with 30 years told me she would help me. Def something to look forward to!

Yeah I remember you had a rough go with your other sponser. Sounds like you got through it just fine. Keep up the great work. Seems like are drinking days were so long ago😀

Your right! I don't like to speak into the future because I try to stay on my toes but I can't believe how much time I wasted personally on hangovers and drinking. Those days are becoming a thing of the past where I hope they stay

Congratulations on getting a sponsor. Those steps really do bring a whole new improved quality to sobriety.

Wishing you all the best for your recovery. BB
