Lets Roll the Tape!

I got thinking about this today... a normal person would think alcohol is just alcohol. You drink, you become drunk. Boom. Done. But what about folks that say things like "whiskey always made me angry."? But they could drink beer and be just fine? Or drinking wine makes a person act silly??

Anything to it?

BrendaChenowyth 01-31-2017 12:54 PM

I don't understand the connection between the thread title and the content?

Yes, lots of people find that different types of alcohol put them in different moods, and that's common among alcoholics as well as "normal drinkers".

Are you thinking perhaps that certain types of alcohol could be "safe" for you to drink?

It's not what anyone thinks about drinking, it's what you know about yours that matters.
I loved whiskey /whisky , that was the problem.

Dee74 01-31-2017 01:27 PM

I tried every kind of alcohol...it all sent me insane and knocked me down on my butt.

Why the question Steve?

It's sorta a 'nothing to see here...move along' kinda deal for me...alcohol pwned me.

I'd rather focus on my life now, than my life then.

Listening to the young guys at work, I guess.

Alcohol is alcohol, wine/beer/booze really doesn't matter - you get drunk if you drink enough of any of it. Also not sure where you are going with this one Steve?

Basically think back to how different stuff effected you...

Man, this place has been brutal lately...

Nope, not at all. Just amused at the 21-ish guys I work with talk about how different booze has different effects on them.

This is all.

I think about my mom, adult child of an alcoholic, married to one, now has an alcohol-dependent son living with her. "It's only beer," she used to say about my father as he slammed down a few every day. "It's only beer," she says about my brother, who is painfully, embarrassingly drunk by 11 am.
And actually, it's not "only beer." My bro drinks cheap whiskey, as did my father, in addition to beer.
Alcohol is alcohol. Some of us just can't drink it, though we wish with all of our might that we can.
Booze lost its control over me the day I accepted that I just couldn't drink it. Took a lot of "I think I can have (fill in the blank with alcoholic beverage of choice) and I'll be okay."
Nope, not okay.

SR you mean? :dee

I dunno. We keep ourselves honest :)

For me it's even broader. Though alcohol was my drug of choice , as it were, intoxication is really the rub. My AV really perks up when people start discussing pot, coke ect, " yeah , remember them , they're different , I get the no booze thing , but cmon they're different" , my Beast loves them all, too bad for it I decided to stop paying the price for the buzz(es), because that's all any of it is chasing the eternal buzz, what a waste .

Yeah, not casting blame. Seems lately that stark naked honest threads are getting edited extra hard. Maybe I'm seeing all the bad stuff, the conspiracy theorist that I am.

I find myself posting less and less here on SR.

Dee74 01-31-2017 02:29 PM

I honestly have no idea what you mean Steve, but hey... peace out :)

This is all.

It probably does, and it's probably fun for him. Good for him.

Maudcat 01-31-2017 02:58 PM

Sometimes, and forgive if I am wrong, Steve, but sometimes you sound like you are in a dark place. I like your posts a lot. They are thoughtful and sincere. I hope you can continue with SR, but...up to you.
Just know that I always look forward to reading your thoughts and support, as much as I am able in this virtual world, your recovery.

steve-in-kville 01-31-2017 03:03 PM

Thanks, folks. Appreciate it.

Different types of alcohol would affect my body in slightly different ways, but they'd all get me drunk, which is what I was after. And they're all poison which would kill me if I let it.

I think people say that because whiskey gets you drunk a lot quicker. I think it's all in the bac, not necessarily the drink. I will say that I always had a bad reaction to red wine. Headaches, extreme tiredness and crankiness as well as hives. I couldn't even drink it when I was drinking.

thomas11 01-31-2017 07:06 PM

I was always kind of amused listening to people talk about how different types of alcohol gave them different types of behavior. I personally don't see the connection, but the mind is powerful, and for some people if they think wine makes them silly, then when they drink wine, they'll act silly. You know what I mean? I had not gotten drunk on wine or beer for 20 yrs before I quit. I only drank rum.
