Practice mindfulness. It got me though some rough patches. Try to stay focused on something other than your thoughts. don't try to resist your thoughts - let them be in the background. The more you try not to think the more you will think.

A big part of our addiction problem is the belief that every time we have an unpleasant feeling we can do something to make it go away.

Well put.
We are so used to self-medicating that we feel we should not feel bad. But it's ok to feel bad.
My Eurika moment came when I finally realised I don't need to worry so much about feeling bad.

Well said.

Whenever I feel discomfort, a bad feeling, or emotion I think there is something wrong with me. I have always had an issue with this and never looked at it from that perspective.

Hi Carlinford, I want to recommend the Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with "the mother" it has live culture ,like probiotics. It balances acid /alkaline content in your body.

If your Dr says it's ok try two tablespoons with lemon and or lime fill the glass with water, add honey if you like. I don't use honey but I have been using OACV once or twice a day and it has been a godsend.

Great on hot days to re hydrate. And if you are hungover it reduces awful stomach pain. Been using OACV since august 2016 and it has helped with various "leaky gut" conditions. Best to you.

I felt like that around day 20, In the daytime the only thing that helped me was putting ear phones in and working out for a full hour. Even if you don't feel like it, just zone out and don't think about anything. You'll also feel better for several hours afterwards.

Hi Manama, Thanks, (are you in Manama capital of Bahrain where I drank my head of in once when working in Saudi?)
Yes I have heard about the OACV but never tried. I will try and get tomorrow in the health store, it might help with the nausea/stomach hebbi/ jebbis .

Yea it is It's one of the most beautiful places on earth with some the oldest remains of civilization and the most modern architecture. Did you have any time to see the place? The skyscrapers are amazing in photos.

Hey save yourself some money Walmart has the OACV less than half the price of whole food stores. Pick up some Chia seeds , add a small amount to OACV (also Walmart, get a small pack for 88 cents) they last a month. Great for detox. Get better soon and tell me about Manama if you get the chance

I can say from experience that often times it's not the event that causes my panic, even though it appears to be that way. The state of my health typically dictates how I respond to certain situations, personally.

I don't think it's weird to have panic attacks if you're prone to them, especially if you gorge on sugar, drink a lot of caffeine, vape / smoke, or eat a lot of junk food, just to name some common examples. Being on day 70 is debatable, but PAWS could even explain some of that.

I'm prone to panic attacks as well, they're annoying. I hope yours sop!

I am long past the brain fog stage, but find that anxiety can quickly derail my ability to think clearly. Exercise and reading seem to help.

I couldn't focus for at least three or four months after I stopped drinking.

When things aren't just right
I think about how worse all would be if I was drinking.

32 days in and the brain fog hit. I was literally wandering around in a daze, got up, brushed my teeth, walked out the door to go get some caffeine and realized my wallet and keys were still inside on the counter and I had locked myself out of the house.
The best way to characterize brain fog is while you haven't been drinking you mind is inebriated. Focus, clarity, ability to think straight is gone.
I've also gone through the stages of drunken stumbling with brain fog as though my sense of balance is shot too

Well the past week has been surprisingly good, I kind of forgot about the brain fog for a bit and the anxiety has definitely calmed down now. It feels like things have been going in waves. The week before I originally posted this thread I was feeling pretty good, then had that bad week, now I'm on a good week again.

Does that sound pretty common? I just hope if it comes back again it wont be as bad and wont last as long.

Hi Sierra14, I am the same, clean since New Year, it does seem to come in waves, my last week was terrible at circa.30 days, but it seems to have subsided this week. I think its the wave thing, they say comes on multiples of 30'3 i.e. 30,60, 90,120 days etc. so next wave due for me end of this month. I Think only healthy and clean living with good sleep and patience is the cure. Good Luck.

Today I am at day 106 and I am a mess.

I was doing really good for a few weeks and today the brain fog, grogginess and anxiety has hit me like a brick wall.

Hi Doug 39 I am sorry for your pain, its a terrible affliction this PAWS thing, I could call it worse things but the moderators wouldn't appreciate it lol. I only ever managed 120 days maximum dry in my drinking career of 35+ years and I managed to slip at Christmas, what a bummer, so I don't actually know when they will go away but know it will be away beyond my previous attempt of 120 days due to kindling. I am at 38 days now and have at least 100 days in front of me as I know from past experience. Just have to live with it and know I will have many crap days ahead. Will try not think about it and soldier on, Good Luck and keep us posted on your journey.
