New here, hello
So I made the decision to stop drinking recently in line with the new year. It hasn't happened overnight since I was told going cold turkey would not be good for me. I reduced my consumption gradually and have finally got down to nothing. I had been drinking daily for around 4 years and heavily for around twelve. I knew I had a real problem when I started drinking in the mornings and during the day, alone and really not enjoying it but felt I needed it... I have managed to keep work together and family too but I still look like a heavy drinker with the signature red face and weighing 20 lbs too much. I'm glad to have found this place and have gained some confidence from reading other's stories. Here's to a healthier future

Good choice! Welcome to SR. There is a wealth of knowledge here ( that I have barely tapped). Keep coming back and reading. Daily if you can. I've found it to be quite helpful. Are you feeling strong withdrawal symptoms at all?
R- welcome and great you are doing something about your drinking with a family while you still have one. Do not take them for granted or assume they understand what you are going through. Prof/outside support is a must- AA. SMART, Therapy, Doctor, here. Keep posting. There is a new Class of January 2017 thread for people starting off the new year at this time with the aim of sobriety if you care to join it. Free- no charge.
Welcome to the family.
Getting sober for good is the best thing I've ever done for myself.
I hope we can help you achieve a sober life. It takes some effort and changes, but is really worth it.

Indeed I was but thanks to tapering down there was no big bang. Before when I stopped I would have terrible nights of profuse sweating and a few days of feeling like a zombie but then again I had a few drinks today and yesterday so I wasn't able to keep this weekend intact but I know I've got a solid foundation to keep going and stay busy. Onwards and upwards
