Meh. Just came through the Christmas holiday sober. New Years Eve is a mere four days away. I listen to these young bucks at work brag how "slammed" they were Christmas Eve and how they plan to get "turned up" for New Years. And for the first time in years its just "Meh. Whatever." I guess I'm showing my age or I'm putting that mindset behind me. Or both, which is cool, too. This is all. |
Me too. Do not miss that. Age and maturity? I will die disgracefully- but sober, safe and enjoying life (I a long time). |
It's funny to me about how people brag about getting turnt...like it takes some kind of talent or something lol There is absolutely nothing cool about being drunk. |
Steve, I think it's the mindset. I'll raise a glass of seltzer water and cranberry juice to you this new years eve! |
I am glad to have left that mindset behind me. :) I am much happier sober. :) |

Who comes up with these words, anyway?! I don't have all kinds of cool words for getting wasted. I do know one word for not getting wasted 'Maturity'. |
I guess this is one area in which I am grateful for being older. But I do remember the kind of people we're talking about, though, who get all excited about getting "turnt," "ripped," "hammered," "blistered," and some other colorful words that would be censored here. :) |
Turned Up for new yrs...LOL! Now i battle just to stay Turned Off! Oh, i bet the younger people said they were gonna Turn It Up! i hope u have a nice new years tho. im gonna stay home sober. |
LOL.....Soberlicious got it right...Its Gettin' TURNT! Soberlicious pretty Hip! |
You're right Steve. That scene just gets old. Getting wasted on New Years when you're 22 and single is, as you said -- 'Meh'. Doing that when you're 42 and have a family is just kind of sad -- 'Ugh'. More importantly, my mindset has changed as I've gotten older. Everything doesn't need to be some extreme experience lived to the max. I find a calm but productive day getting things done, ending with a relaxing time with friends/family to be very satisfying. No need to be altering my mind or swinging from a chandelier. As far as the young bucks bragging about how slammed they got over the holidays, I had a moment of perspective about that a couple of years ago prior to quitting. I went out after work on a Friday night with some young guys from work who were known as hard partiers (just booze, no drugs). It didn't take me long to realize that their idea of getting "slammed" was what an alcoholic like me called "Wednesday afternoon" |

Well said all. A lot of it is an age/maturity thing. When I was younger, I left the liquor store with pride. Yay! I have a whole bottle of rum! I'm getting trashed this weekend! Twenty years later, I'm trudging back to my car with two bottles and ashamed if anyone sees what I need just to makethrough to Monday. |
Back in the 20s they'd say tight a lot for drunk. Hemingway and Fitzgerald both used that a lot iirc. |
