Christmas morning

Tomorrow will be my third consecutive Christmas morning without a hangover. I didn't really say anything to my family, but I will to you guys. -its like getting a big present. I used to suffer so badly...

Four years ago had me swallowing 2 ativans and 4 ibuprofens just to make it through presents with the fam. -its a different ballgame now. Up, relaxed, coffee, or whatever I feel like. No pounding headache, gagging over the sink, or slipping away to discretely medicate.

Color me grateful. -Merry Christmas!

Me too. Up , meat sorted and cooking for later, breakfasted, ready for 2nd cup of coffee and a couple of chocs.

Such a difference.

Merry Christmas x

Merry Christmas everyone!

This is my second consecutive sober Christmas. Trouble is, the last drunk one I was so messed up, the people I usually spent Christmas with still don't wanna be around me. Those people are my kids and an ex girlfriend. So, I spend it alone for the second year in a row. Even so, I wouldn't trade this for what I was like 2 years ago today. I barely remember anything about. If it's gonna get better, this is the only way.

I'm sober for the 2nd consecutive time. Sitting here reading SR and drinking my coffee. One of my dogs is spread eagle on the bed, the other snuggled on a couch. Same thing I do every morning.

Peace everyone.

I'm very thankful for another sober Christmas morning as well and happy for all of you who are also. My hope goes our to those that are still struggling that perhaps they can give the best gift they could and find peace/sobriety this year.

Second sober Christmas for me too. Enjoying an early cup of coffee before presents. No hangover!

Have a great day all!

This is my first Christmas morning without a hungover since 1988.

It is 8am and my wife is still out cold - she got obnoxiously drunk last night.

Sending love to all today, Christmas season can be hard/ complicated for lots of us. We're doing great.

I'm not a religious person, but the word 'blessing' comes to mind.

I'm snuggled with my son on the couch, sipping coffee looking at all his new toys strewn about on the floor. No pressure to do anything other than hang out and enjoy the day.

Normally I'd be hungover as hell and possibly going to work in that state. I'm grateful those days are over, so that I can savour the normalcy that only sobriety can provide me.

Love hearing from y'all!

First sober Christmas here, in a long time. It has been an amazing couple of days; I made some courageous decisions about how to spend the holiday and am sure seeing how the blessings of my program have come true just during this time.

My heart is bursting with gratitude and joy.

Great post, thanks for sharing! What a blessing to not have any poison in my brain this morning!

I do the same thing, it's so nice to share our feelings to folks in our fellowship that truly understand how big it is to have the gift of being sober every day!!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

i thought about this last night too. about how i was about to have another late santa night etc.. and would wake up the following morning on little sleep at all. I recalled in my drunken years how i'd do the santa thing totally plastered wake up the next morning haveing barely slept at all and half dead and unable to wait to start drinking again.

this morning was diff i got up helpe dhte kids saw some family ran only 3 miles because not a lot of time then cleaned the chicken coop and donig other chores etc..

its a pretty big diff from prior years. now if the wife and i can manage to not kill each other today... i guess things will never be perfect.

My first sober Cmas in 36 years. And Cmas Eve and Thanksgiving. The end of 2016 is turning out much better than the beginning.

Doug39 12-25-2016 11:21 AM

For the last 27 years I was drunk on Christmas (and the other 364 days of the years too!!), it was the only way I could cope with the anxiety of seeing relatives.

I still have anxiety about doing the family thing today - but I have learned new coping skills that don't involve alcohol.
