Called for help, was told to call back -tomorrow

I called the local aa number last night, I need help. Day told me to call back in the morning after 9am. Of course that didn't happen, I woke up with the shakes and had a beer instead.
My alcoholism is 24/7, apparently sobriety is scheduled after morning coffee and donuts?

Well, it's still early. Locate a meeting and go to it.

I agree with above. Give the number a call back or look up where the next AA meeting is and head out there. Don't forget to dump all the booze first.

Call the number again. Tell them you need help. They will help you, but you have to do some of the footwork to get the help you need.

Phone helplines can be good, but they're not always 24/7 even if they advertise that - same with emotional distress ones. They will get back to you, but meetings are better if you need immediate support, and face to face helps more. Don't worry how traumatised or frightened you feel - people will listen and help.

I'd call the number again.

I'm guessing they're volunteers who give whatever free time they have to help others.

Or you could cut out the middleman and just go to a meeting and get some face to face contacts?

I'm posting this to illustrate that some people will look far and wide for beer, but not for something easily available online.

AA: San Gabriel / Pomona Valley Central Service Office - Find Meetings

AA meetings are not a substitute for quitting drinking, and I advise quitting drinking. You can start by getting rid of all the alcohol.

Hi ladyfriend,

Try calling the AA line again you will find someone who can help you. I called the other night and this girl answer the phone and after talking a bit she gave me the address of a meeting she was going next day so we could meet. It made me feel better. I was so sick the next day I could not go but there is help if you are willing to ask for it.

First thing is to stop drinking so you can clear your mind. I get very depress when drunk lately and I think there's no point but there is.

Keep posting you are not alone.

it was the san gabriel number that i had called

I appreciate all the suggestions. I should probably fill in my situation a bit. I am disabled, PTSD, chronic pain, all the stuff that goes with it. I've only just moved back to Cali a couple months ago and have no car. I do regularly get lost the bus, and am getting better riding it. I'm also a retread. This sn'tnmy first 12 step adventu, I've addiction to meth in my past. Did well for many yes.. then lost my mind I guess. Thought I could dink since alcohol never had a call on me before.
I admit was wrong. I am an alcoholic.
A very frightened one.
I only drank the one beer today. I'm kinda shaky, got sick to my stomach this afternoon too.
I threw all the rest f the booze out in the dumpster.
I will call the number again tomorrow, I'm not going to drink, I'm going to get to a meeting. I'm just scared right now.

Wow these shakes won't let me sleep. I think even my innards are quaking. Posting is quite a challenge, lol, with shakyshaky on a touchscreen. Going to keep trying for some sleep, still scared of what could come next as far as withdrawals. I am alone.

Sometimes my local telephone line will suggest people call in the morning if they're very drunk. It's difficult to have a full conversation about problem drinking while you're drunk.

Did you try calling them back this morning?

Please don't hesitate to seek emergency/urgent medical care if the withdrawals get too bad, they can be dangerous. Better to be safe than sorry. Uncontrollable shaking is not something to dismiss.

I called this morning, they don't pick folks up anymore due to , well, people, liabilities, which I can understand. The shaking has calmed down and I think I got an hour of sleep!
All the money I spent on alcohol, i f I can't figure out the bus route, I have to and will take a cab to a meeting.
If. Can . Get. Out. Of . Bed.
Thank you everyone for being here and helping.

Why not splash out on a cab this time while you're feeling so dodgy. Often it's easier to suss out bus routes when coming back to where you know the area, so you might manage the bus back. Then you'll know what to do in reverse for the next meeting. Like you say, compared with the cost of all that alcohol, a cab fare's the least of your worries.

Go for it. Good luck. We're rooting for you.
