The news behind the news:
Several studies have been done on this in the UK.
The main factor people report for drinking less and not getting drunk is...Social Media.
What you do today stays with you forever in the younger generations eyes and they're not willing to get out of control drunk, be photographed and let this taint their online image withat friends and peers.
I'll leave you to decide if this is a good or a bad thing

^^^This. In the rare occasion that a co-worker gets yanked for a "random" drug test, its usually because they did something stupid and it wound up on facebook.... and someone kindly brought it to HR's attention.

I know at least around here in a few upper middle class areas have been experiencing heroin epidemics.
The stats are for the generation in that age range of 2016 I think it's promising in a world where alcohol is largely legal the current generation are not walking down the same path some of us did I think that's a ruddy miracle in itself
I think it's only for the uk though Il keep my eyes & ears out from other countries for thier current generation stats
Basically I think the kids are learning that alcohol is on the whole a bad idea

Call me cynical but...as someone who lives in the UK...I don't believe the 16% figure. I'd like to see this corroborated by a few more studies first.
Generally the trend in the UK is:
- Fewer children reporting that they 'have ever' had an alcoholic drink.
- Stable or slightly higher figures for per head annual consumption
- The proportion of children drinking at 'harmful' levels remains pretty consistent
Personally I have always found it interesting to look at historical figures and trends for alcohol consumption. The figurus go up and down...what you seem to get consistently is 5-10% of the population getting in serious trouble with booze. The rest is just changes in general drinking patterns and the attitudes of society.
