80 days sober but everything is going wrong
About 5 months ago I got a DUI, today i'm 80 days sober. Probably the only thing to be happy about. Other then that everything is going wrong.
About 2 months ago I was hit by a car, this was at a point in my life when things just started going well. I got a new job, I had other jobs calling me and I had it set up where the 1st job I could take by bus, and the 2nd job is close walking distance from my house. It seems like I can't have anything good. On my 2nd day of training on my new job I was hit by a car(my femur was broken). It was devastating but I decided to work hard everyday so I could quickly get back to work. I managed to walk without crutches within 6 weeks, even though I was in some pain I still needed to get back to work. After all i'm in debt medical bills from a previous incident (over-drinking), i'm also in debt with student loans and some credit card debt. None of which I was able to pay on not working.
We got a lawyer, but the lawyer told us the process of actually getting the money could take about 6 months. I've never got a lawyer before, I just thought the person who hit me automatically had to pay that money. If I have to wait that long it defeats the purpose of everything.
I call the manager of the restaurant that I was working at before the accident a week before my final doctor's appointment to clear me to work, and he tells me they did alot of layoffs within the last 6 weeks and wont be hiring again until March. I just don't understand why they would open a restaurant, hire alot of people and then lay them all off. Nothing personal against the boss, but now i'm jobless. I have hundreds of bills coming in the mail and debt collectors calling my phone. I've tried finding another job but since this is layoff season I haven't had much luck. And to add injury to the wound I still didn't receive my check for my 3 days of training.
I also wanted to go back to college but there's a $25 fee for the application and I have to write a financial aid suspension appeal. My mother claims she doesn't have enough money to pay the $25 fee and i'm worried I wont be able to get into college this semester. Everyday it's getting worst. Not to mention I tried getting a few teeth pulled due to an infection, and we didn't even have enough money for that.
So i'm feeling very depressed and overwhelmed with no one to talk to about this. To be honest I wish I had died in that accident sometimes, it's cruel, that I would survive only to suffer this much.

Sorry to hear things aren't going your way lately YoungHyde. 80 days of sobriety is fantastic though, congratulations! Imagine how much worse things would be if you were still drinking to put it in perspective.
Check with the financial aid people at the college you are applying at if there is a way to waive the application fee, I bet there is. Good pick with your legal issues as well, they take time to process.

I worked in the restaurant industry for nearly 20 years. Layoffs are common in December...
About the teeth: have you called any colleges? Usually dental schools will do dental work for a very low cost. Extractions aren't too expensive even if you go to a regular specialist, though. You can surely find one who will work with you. Extractions aren't really something that can wait without significant risk.
I'm sorry about your accident, maybe your attorney will be able to get you a settlement that will cover all this time off work and your tuition. Hang on. It's going to get better. Please don't drink!!

Technically, you could avoid this if the insurance company doesn't know about the accident, and never finds out, but they probably do, if it was noted on the medical records. Either way, the insurance company is probably entitled to the money, and you don't want to spend it and then have the insurance company come after you for their cut. It will mean less money for you, but otherwise, you may have problems later. Your attorney probably already knows to do this, but you should ask just in case, so there are no surprises.
I was recently in an accident, so I can understand somewhat what you are going through.

That's not true, YoungHyde. It's better if you get whatever compensation you can receive. Be sure to speak with the attorney about your medical bills, though, especially if you used your own health insurance to cover the costs. Your health insurance company will want a cut of that settlement money, and the attorney will have to handle this for you, or you will have the insurance company come after you for the money. It's called the right of subrogation, and most people don't know about this.

Suddenly I get a $750.00 bill, this was when I didn't have much debt so it seemed like alot. Suddenly i'm getting physician bills, I thought it was a mistake at the time but nope. $1,400.00 just to have a physician look at me, I should of gotten his autograph.
And then I look at the ambulance bill (I thought the ride was free also, silly me), About $800.00 for an ambulance ride, next time I need medical help I should just call a cab. This is the 1st time i've ever been in debt, so i'm not really comfortable with it.

If it's of any consolation, my bills were over $135,000 -- and still counting.
I know it seems like the world is against you right now, but all you can do is the best you can every day.
My first priority would be to get the 25 for the waiver so you can get back to school. Make sure there is no way the school will waive it, if not tell your mom you will do something to reduce her expenses by 25 -- you will be able to fgure something out. Or ask a friend.
You need something positive to focus on -- school could be that.
Please dont drink.
