Crazy things we tell each other

1.) Once an addict, always an addict.

2.) It's okay to relapse. You're an alcoholic. That's what you do, you drink.

3.) fill in yours

In my case, that's a fact. I'm an addict. My reprieve is daily.

Even though booze have brought me to the pits of hell many, many times I could probably drink a little now and just control my drinking a little better.

Yes, I can play a little with the devil without getting caught again.

That guy in the mirror is so darn smart.

I would also agree that this statement is true for me. It's certainly not something that makes sense ( addiction ) but i wouldn't really consider it a crazy statement.

To me, this simply means if I ever picked up a drink again, the addiction would be triggered. It doesn't mean I am doomed to keep drinking no matter what.

That alcohol is the problem, rather than my mind and heart...

"Crazy things we tell each other"

but not as smart as the man in MY mirror.

in all honesty, im thinkin the craziest things ive told others is things ive done in my past I never thought id mention again- things that may help someone see they aren't alone or unique.

something I said when I was drinkin:
im not an alcoholic- they go to them meetings and I go to the bar.

Alcoholism is a disease, so I can't help it if I drink- I am sick.

"I like alcohol too much to become an alcoholic".

Meaning, I liked it so much I didn't want to have to stop.

*sigh*

Don't drink and go to meetings.
Never worked for me. No one ever told me there was a book and steps to take. Once I got into the steps and worked a program, only then did I stay sober. Meetings and drunkalogues did nothing for me.

I can tell you my thoughts before quitting.

I have said:

5) I choose to drink.
6) It's none of your business.
7) My drinking is not hurting anyone.
8) I can handle it.
9)

All false -- then and now.

(7 ate 9)

One man's crazy is another man's lifesaver

In all seriousness I try pretty hard to listen and not give overt advice in all areas of my life...because much of what I "think" someone else needs to hear is just damn crazy

I never found it too helpful when folks told me "the first drink does the damage". Neither when they said "Before you take a drink, take a bath, clean your shoes..." but these things help some maybe many.

I believe today when I am disturbed I'm causing my own misery. But that might sound crazy to the next man/woman

"It's not the drink, it's just that you're under stress." You just need to quit your job, end your relationship, move out of town, go on a vacation, etc. and then you won't drink like this. Crazy things I told myself

This statement in my experience is not crazy, it is true. I'm recovered but never cured.

I just got a new job/promotion/transfer (add excuse here)- so I deserve a drink.
I just got fired from my new job for drinking. I will tell the family I have been fired for a reason that is all their fault and I am blameless..that way even though my family know I will drink, the will not say anything because I am stressed- so they be polite and leave me to drink. I will use this self-pity to good effect. There should be at least 3 days solid drinking left in that reasonexcuse.
