Recovery Tattoo Any cool recovery tats out there? |
No tats. Too old. Love to see some, though. |
I was never interested in getting tattoos until I turned 50 and now a few more yrs down the road, I have quit a few lovely tattoos. I don't look at being to old to get them, but look at it as a way to express art and wearing them on skin. Not everyone will like them and that is okay with me. I am the one who has to wear them, live with them and to be honest, I forget I have them half the time. :) Yes, I have sobriety tattoos, tattoos with sobriety/recovery expressions on them. Many many vibrant, colorful, tasteful, lovely flowers, roses, birds, butterflies, words, all very feminine for this southern lady living in recovery. :) Got an appointment for next month for my belly button birthday for a new back piece with 2 large roses and 2 butterflies, just one of many pictures I researched on google for traditional or old school pics. Soooooo many saved and so many to choose from that I am totally excited for each new tat I want and appreciate as a gift in sobriety. Hope you find one that you like and will treasure for a life time to come. :) |
i have my sobriety date in roman numerals on my one wrist and "be present" on the other wrist. They are good reminders for me. |
aasharon i never got a tattoo till i got sober too lol. I thought about it what will people think Oh my and i thought ya know if i get passed over at a job interview becuase the person interviewing me is so narrow minded i'm probably better off not working there. I do try to avoid offensive thigns tho like I woudlnt get a topless women or something in plain sight. |
I hear ya zjw.... being brought up stern, having tattoos and piercing back in the day was a no no and you would live to regret it. So all that negativeness drilled into me from a small age, I never wanted one. Same thing with pets. However, when I got sober and yrs down the road, I raised 2 cats, my babies who lived and passed on a good life. They were my gifts in recovery that I was glad to have been able to experience and be thankful for. When I was close to ending my 25 yr marriage and living in Houston for 10 yrs, I had a glimps of a tattoo while working and was inspired. Once I returned home here to Baton Rouge and met my now husband, I learned how to ride a motorcycle, got my endorsement, and got my first tattoo, many one days sober down the road. The more time I have sober, the older ive gotten, life still gets interesting. :) Never imagined id have all my pretty tattoos and have ridden to Sturgis and Daytona for bike week on the back of a Harley in my life today. :) I did have my tats working in a pretty bakery here and customers admired them, bosses didn't mind as long as they were covered, but I wanted to show them off the best I could. I eventually retired from the working force and now feel even freer than I ever have. lol |
Well I've been toying with getting a Beatles lyric, maybe across my upper back, I thought maybe in arabic, but now i think maybe backwards, so you'd have to read it in the mirror... "Living is easy with eyes closed / misunderstanding all we see" Maybe just the first part.. but the whole statement is really meaningful to me, it is the way my life has been before sobriety. |
I once saw a foot with "one step at a time" tattooed on it.. and then my one girlfriend from nursing school has "just for today" on her wrist. |

and yeah i too grew up in a house where tattoos and piercings where taboo. I dunno i think all i was taught about how bad tattoos and piercings are was BS. I've countless good folks who have tattoos and piercings it seems naive to me to prejudge someone over them. |
I have a full sleeve, upper back "To Thine Own Self be True", some song lyrics on one ribcage side, and shoulder to waist daisies on the other ribcage side, a small wrist cuff with some inspirational words (equanimity, freedom, peace, etc) in Devanegari, a small ankle tat with my boys' names (they are also in my sleeve) and some tiny stars on my foot. I might be considered fairly heavily tatted for someone my age, but I still have plenty of skin left for more artwork :) |
I got my first tattoo a year after I quit, had been toying with the idea of getting 'inked' for awhile but wanted something meaningful and not 'just' ink. As an anniversary/celebration I had the word "sufficit" in an ambigram wreath tattooed on my upper arm. My recovered tat :) This year I had da Vinci's Virtuvian Man tattooed on my calf with a "Thing 1" placard place for modesty(lol) , an 'everyone has their things , but underneath we are all human' kinda thing :) , I put some pics in my photo album |
Some ideas here? recovery tattoos - Bing images |
Our son has, "Everything Will Be Ok" in script on his forearm. Just his way of taking life ODAAT. It works for him. He celebrated his 8th year in Recovery in September (sober birthday is one day after belly button). He just turned 25. |
Yes! I incorporated a lotus flower to symbolize my recovery in a larger tattoo that I have- let me go find a pic :) (for those who don't know, lotus flowers have long symbolized new beginnings- they grow from murky muddy pond bottoms and emerge as a beautiful flower). BRB |
https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net...e2&oe=58B59600 (the pink ones are lotus flowers- the blue flower is my son's birth flower, a chrysanthemum, and the elephant... well because I am obsessed with them, and to me they represent strength, loyalty, family). |
Burning Lotus is the name of the Tattoo Shop I go to get my tattoos so I too am familiar with the Lotus Flower which is one of many flowers I love. Your back peace flutter is beautiful and bet you get lots of compliments on it from other tattoo enthusiasts like us. :) What an awesome way to express ones own recovery/sobriety then with a great tattoo. It is something to enjoy till death due us part. Right? :) |
Flutter, that's gorgeous, the detail on the elephant is phenomenal. |
yes, that's some beautiful work there. |
I remember when posted about getting this, Flutter! It's simply breathtaking! I, too, have a lotus incorporated into my sleeve. |
