Ya know....I kinda half chuckled / half winced as I typed it. Man, what an exhausting way to try and live.

I could review when my life was in alcoholic shambles.

Or I can THINK:

FALSE EUPHORIA IS UNNATURAL!

WE WERE NEVER MADE TO ABUSE!

WE WERE MADE FOR SOBER FUN!

ONLY!

.
I DON'T NEED POISON ALCOHOL!
.

I think I've had a lot of both too -- and I think many addicts have in general. Others mention it of course, that a lot of what we've been doing is self medication. And it might 'work' for years, until it doesn't work anymore. So put simply, we still get to face all the underlying issues when quitting the substance abuse and this is why things become increasingly difficult. The depression and anxiety have been suppressed yet resurface, maybe in new and different ways when no longer under the influence. In my case there are things dating way back to childhood and stuff and it becomes difficult to deal with as a (sober) adult.

I have recently quit and I feel some anxiety, except Monday had a panic attack, which triggered the quitting, again. So all week thinking the anxiety was the alcohol withdrawal. Well, withdrawals were over in a day. Very mild. I think what I feel now is a combination of anxiety and the daily drinking was to cover it up.

I don't think most alcoholics have anxiety and depression, though a very large number of us do abuse alcohol because of it.
