Quit attempt 63

3rd night sober, rare on a friday. Last attempt was few weeks ago, lasted about 5 days. Bit lightheaded, bit shaky but not too bad. How many more attempts will it take?

Thats pretty much up to you Zoso.

If you do something different this time I think you have a better chance of a different outcome?

Got any ideas on a plan to stay sober?

I tried getting an appointment to get some anti-depressants but couldn't get an appointment. What generally happens is that 4-5 days into soberity, depression/anxiety comes back full force (withdrawal I assume?) and I hit the bottle again. I had to go to emergency last week and they gave me 3 valium (?) tablets, my plan this time is if I get the anxiety/depression attack again tomorrow/day after is to use those and hopefully they'll calm me down and not hit the bottle. And planning on being out and about on the weekend instead of just sitting home.

How about setting aside some specific time to read here and learn more about what it takes to stay sober? We have weekender threads, monthly threads and of course a very active newcomers forum. Surrounding yourself with people who are in the same situation with the same goal can be really helpful.

You could also check into what local support groups are available ( AA/NA, Smart, LifeRing, etc ). Personal interaction and working a formal sobriety plan can be very empowering as well.

You could also check with your doctor or local alchol/drug authority and see if there are an outpatient rehab or other types of alcohol/drug counseling available. Many times these services are free or sliding fee scale if money is an issue.

Bottom line, invest as much time in getting sober as you do into drinking and you'll be amazed how far you can go.

what are you willing to do to make it so no more attempts are necessary?

maybe not attempt recovery, but do recovery?

It only takes one attempt, when you are truly ready to do so.
