Sleepie's Summer Support Thread

For all those who once drank their way through many a summer... and for those who are sent into hiding at the first hint of heat.

Was ill yesterday from the heat, still shaky and weak today.

I want this to be my "cool" place.

This is my first summer in years that I am sober and also not even a benzo.

Fabela 06-12-2016 12:16 PM

Enjoy this picture of a lovely winter day in Norway. Cool enough? :)

Ohhh yes! Thank you Fabela... I was even looking at pictures of cool places yesterday but this is just lovely!

I'm not looking forward to the intense heat of summer. I do better with milder temps. But I live in Ohio so get some pretty bad heat. As long as it doesn't last too long I can tolerate it.

sleepie 06-12-2016 12:29 PM

I thought it would be better this year. Last summer was shaking and sweating through benzo withdrawal.

Fabela 06-12-2016 12:36 PM

Sleepie, I have a guest room. I kid you not. Our summers are nice, not hot, and the sun is up almost all night. People go nuts if the temperature reaches the high 70's and call it the best summer ever. You can swim in the cool ocean and walk in magical forests. And then I can come visit you. :)

sleepie 06-12-2016 12:38 PM

Oh I LOVE magical forests!

My favorite place. I must be Norweigan at heart.

trachemys 06-12-2016 12:42 PM

Well, I love summer heat. Being born in Georgia in June without air conditioning...hot is my norm.

I'm right there with you. 91 degrees yesterday, and no AC in the apartment. I'm grateful to be sober 2.5 years, but this heat and sun will push my severe anxiety over the edge. Praying for a mild summer.

Regards.

sleepie 06-12-2016 01:45 PM

Well Trach I am very happy for you. For me though, summer equals heat illness and possible death. So, not a fan.

Hi thenewguy. Same here, I am still nauseous and sick today after yesterday's short outing. It is nerve wracking beyond belief to try and live life while you are literally scared for your life to go outdoors and have to wonder if you will require hospitalization just because you want to do something that necessitates leaving the apartment.

Fabela those pictures are so, so lovely :)

sleepie 06-12-2016 01:47 PM

Although if any of you have ever experienced the kind of withdrawals where your heart pounds and you cannot breathe properly, you have a small idea of what heat illness is like. But it lingers for days and makes you weak.

soberclover 06-12-2016 04:45 PM

The summer generally unnerves me as I work within a school system so I don't have the structure I'm used to. I do have a few projects to keep my attention. We're experiencing some very strange weather here in Vermont; very cool now but will jump to warmer in a few days. This thread is a good reminder to me of the importance of self care during the summer -

sleepie 06-12-2016 04:54 PM

Yeah unfortunately cannot take this season lightly

trachemys 06-12-2016 05:17 PM

I'm sorry, sleepie. Didn't mean to be bragging.

Cow 06-12-2016 05:18 PM

Sleepies, where is you live?

P.S. It been up to 114 here. Can I book stay in Starflower room in Norway?

sleepie 06-12-2016 05:25 PM

Ok Trach

Cow I am in the midwest. It gets so, so humid here. I have experienced dry heat one time ever and I could not believe what a difference it was. Way more tolerable. But I am not built for heat... I like it cool and grey and soothing...

Cow 06-12-2016 05:32 PM

That sound like Norway!

Humid is hard. Why you no move to somewhere better for you? I asking this of my self actually, not you.

sleepie 06-12-2016 05:40 PM

Yes, I dream of moving elsewhere.
I have one Dr that I refuse to leave as she is the only one who listens and also works with me about this one thing instead of telling me what to do, it is my eyes. Plus the bf's parents, lucky for him I don't have any of those so it's all about him/his family.

But I do dream of it and maybe just will go elsewhere anyway. I hate it here besides as it al wrong wrong wrong for my pesonality.

sleepie 06-12-2016 05:40 PM

Is the weather hard on you where you are Cow?
