What Tomsteve said. Most speakers tell thier story and how AA helped then turn thier life around.

My experience has been I get more out of these sort of shares when the speaker focuses mostly on what happened (step work) and what he/she is like now (post step work) and not as much about the stories of what it used to be like.

Someone recently pointed out to me that it says "in a general way". I used to share too many details of what it used to be like. Fun to hear maybe, but not as helpful or hopeful.

I phrased that wrong. I didn't mean "fun", since obviously our stories had some terrible things happen. What I meant more was how some of us get into that habit of sharing stories and making them "funny" when they're really not funny.... More like what I think sugarbear said, "putting the 'fun' in dysFUNctional"! I was thinking of one guy in particular who likes to share mostly about his fights and crazy antics from his drinking days and I feel like he shares that stuff for attention from those who enjoy hearing those kinds of stories.
