3 weeks in with no urges, came home and found the fridge filled with beer.

3 weeks is the longest I've been sober in over 5 years. I wasn't even trying to get sober this time, I had given up and just planned to get my drinking under control soon. Anyway, I hit one week, then two, and now I'm on 3. I feel great about what I'm doing. I haven't had the urge to drink either.

However, I came home to find the fridge slam full of beer. That voice in the back of my head showed up. "Wouldn't a nice ice cold beer taste good after a long day of work?" I'm sure everyone knows what I mean. Apparently my room mates are having a bunch of people over and bought beer for that.

Unfortunately I am stuck in this lease until August, so I cannot get out until then.

This was my first real test, and I am proud to say I shut the fridge and told my room mates I was just going to watch movies in my room tonight.

Thanks!

I got a drunk in public on my birthday. It was the 2nd time I've ever been arrested. I somehow rationalized it in my mind and started drinking again a few days after.

It got to the point where I would buy smaller bottles of liqour to try to limit my drinking b/c I knew once I cracked the bottle, that I would finish it. I woke up one day and was tired of going to work drunk/feeling like death. Plus I was started to get drunk 4x a week, but it had gotten close to 5x.

Luckily, I got the drunk in public thrown out.

Hi SlickRick, great job on your "test" and your 3 weeks. I believe that the simple fact that you enjoy being sober will help you tremendously in remaining sober. Too many folks quit and feel horrible and I feel bad for those people. Feel horrible when they drink, feel horrible when they don't. Keep er' going.

Good job.

I also got sober living in a house with people who still drink and keep booze around. It's not super easy, but the benefit of it is that you learn how to be around it without breaking your resolve. Good for you for shutting the fridge!!
