I love alcohol, I hate alcohol dilemma On one hand I really enjoy alcohol. The taste of whiskey on ice is the greatest feeling. On the other hand it has brought about consequences. The day I was sentenced to prison I vowed never to drink again. I had access to homemade alcohol while incarcerated but I managed to abstain. Within, 1 month of my release I was drinking the bottle again. I work in the construction industry and return to work this week. I'm fortunate to still have a job as most ex-cons do not. Although I have been drinking off and on the last year I get off parole next month. I am scared to death of getting off parole. |
The taste of whiskey on ice is the greatest feeling. I had to get sober to start living life again. The joy I genuinely feel in my life now makes a glass of whiskey a very 'meh' kind of experience. It's a leap of faith to pout the whiskey down and go for that sober life and all the things people tell you it holds - but I hope you do. Have you seen the Dr yet by the way? I know you were worried with health stuff. D |
Dee, yeah it takes a while to see specialists in this country even with good insurance. I return to work this week and use equipment that I must be sober at. Working or staying busy though always has helped me. |
Sorry - I thought you said you were seeing someone last Friday. Just wondered :) D |
Yes, my regular MD. But she is not a Gastro Intestinal doctor. Our health care system can be a complex maze at times. I wish I lived in Australia. |
I have the same dilemma.... thankfully I hate it more than I love it. Now when I think about having a drink I think about all the times it kicked my ass...made me deathly sick, broke, unemployed, act like a jerk, rendered me incapable of defending myself against predictors, ostracized by friends and loved ones and STILL I loved it! Until I stopped loving myself completely....then a choice had to be made....me or the booze....one of us had to go for good....that's when I realized I couldn't carry on that love/hate relationship anymore....the dilemma had to be solved! I picked Me by the way! I wish the same for you! |
I used to like drinking until the consequences were so severe that sobriety looked like a better choice. |
There's nothing to be afraid of unlucky, just quit fighting alcohol and move on with life. You can live just fine without it. Trust us. It's so much better without it. |
