Do i have to go to AA to stay sober?

I sure hope not. I'm like you-I've tried it, I mostly don't like it. It sounds like you have a good plan for you. Congrats on your five and a half months!

As someone who has about the same time of sobriety (stopped drinking in October 2015) I think it can go either way. Right now I have been on an AA meeting roll and have attended 18 meetings in the last 17 days. That said I don't think AA is the only way and if something else is working for you I wish you the best. For me there are a lot of meetings to choose from where I live and some of my old drinking friends are in AA so it works for me. I recognize that some less populated areas of the country do not have as many meeting choices and there really can be a difference in the feel of the room depending on who runs the meeting.
