Obladi -- I'm getting ready to hang a chalkboard in my room for a similar reason.

I'm loving these little morning tweaks. Between setting up the dog food and coffee, and now thinking through the next day's priorities the night before, mornings have gotten MUCH easier.

The bedtime wind-down ritual is getting comfortably ingrained. And to think -- I used to be an insomniac!

I'm going to try Midnight's plank tomorrow.

Sent daughter shopping because she loves Target.

Got a chalkboard calendar decal that clings right to the wall. I wrote all the dates in last night and it was like... nails on a chalkboard! I might need to leave that alone (or get her to write for me).

Also have a whiteboard now which only says "Good Morning!" so far.
Baby steps, eh.

I'm gonna do a plank NOW

I got myself a really nice Deco Financial Ledger book to start tracking
budget much more closely than in the past.

My other "goal" this week is to try and sign-up for the online banking
where I keep my checking account.
This has been something I've been trying to get done for a long time,
but now that I have a new, more secure computer, it will finally happen.

I'm starting my own detox diet this weekend as well and getting back to yoga.

I thought it took ME forever to do online banking, Hawk! I've been doing it for several years and the very best thing is being able to set up bill payment as soon as I get my bills. I sucked at it for awhile due to the booze and not caring about anything dontcha know, but it really is easy to stay organized with the bills this way. Get bill. Go to computer. Set up payment.

Dog's been getting me up around 5 the last few days. That's definitely helped with starting my day. *grumble* Guess he's ready for daylight savings time.

This is the tough thing for me as well, Dropsie. Mornings just ain't easy.

I'm sitting down to do 30-45 minutes of reading, then to the shower, then to return calls/finish laundry, then out to work.

My mornings are always the same BF has a broken ankle and doesn't do anything around the house because of the cast. Been 8 weeks now. Get up 4:30am. Go downstairs. Feed cats. Start water boiling for coffee. Go upstairs to pick up any dishes from last night. Pick up his dirty clothes. Go downstairs. Wash his dishes. Put his clothes in washer. Make him breakfast. Go upstairs and bring him breakfast. Clean cat boxes. Make a cup of coffee. Make BF his lunch. Pack his lunch and put by door. Sign in at SR. Wait for BF to be ready to go to work. Take him to work. Come home and plan dinner. Get ready to go to work. It is literally Groundhog Day everyday. It is a nightmare. Thanks for letting me vent. I sometimes want to cry but, it would be of no use. He doesn't care about how I feel anyway. To him I am an unhappy b*#%#.
The same catering goes on at dinnertime until I fall asleep around 10pm....

It sounds like a pretty unhappy situation Chloe--what
small steps can you take this week to start changing things?
Do you have your own account and are putting away money
in case you decide to kick him to the curb?
Him not caring about your feelings and calling you names sounds
like a rotten Groundhog day to me.
You don't deserve that kind of treatment. Nobody does

Happy Sunday Morning, All!

So as you see, I still struggle with the earlier wake-up time, but progress is progress and I'm gonna count the following consistent wins:
  • I'm getting going AT ONCE upon awakening. All due to the coffee and dogfood setup routine at night!
  • Calls are returned early each morning.
  • Place is tidy, which helps me feel in control of my world.
  • 30 minutes of productive morning reading are helping me stay focused on the important things in life!

As you recall from my first post, there's still more I'd like to be doing. But I'm very pleased with this progress to date. And after about a week, I may raise the bar a little more and go for the earlier wake time.

The challenge for me is that I sincerely enjoy my "golden hours" between about 10 and midnight. That's when I indulge in YouTube documentaries and other guilty pleasures. So, I'll consider this a bit more next week. While I love the idea of an earlier wake time, perhaps my "balanced" cycle is to sleep from midnight until 8?

I'm in the process of doing this, too! Once it becomes habit, I'm sure life will be simpler and more streamlined!

Hey Guys! Ive had a really screwed up sleep pattern my whole life and Im trying to get my life together through sobriety and this seems like a good step!

Heres my plan (Note: My work schedule changes weekly and this is NOT based on days I have work, but days I have off. I dont have an issue waking up when I have an alarm set and have things to do.)

1. Currently 11:51am Eastern Time

2. Desired Wakeup: 10am AND OUT OF BED. Make tea, check work email. Maybe start meditating again (Though Im afraid that will make me sleepy. Have meditated before bed in the past- never in the morning)

3. My bedtime is terrible and changes daily. Fall asleep anytime between 12am-3am. Need to change my before bedtime activities. Late eating, watching tv/movies late. Internet activities.

4. Forced myself to get up this morning when I first awoke naturally (around 9:45am) Feel that will help drastically if I force myself out of bed every morning instead of just falling back to sleep.

Hi, Kirky! My sleep was screwed up for decades and is MUCH better now. So, have confidence you can gradually change habits. Make sure you get far away from the bed upon awakening!

So today I force-fit myself into a much earlier awakening time. I underestimated my own morning grogginess.

Well, out the door I go. I deliberately signed up for an early morning training class today just to force the earlier wake up.

If I could just get out of bed when I wake up -- won.

How can that be so hard??

That is definitely the first big piece of the day and it is SUCH a challenge! Have you tried setting up coffee the night before...or something like that? Something to motivate you to move from the bed to another room?

Here is a really silly and minor idea but have you guys changed the type and sound of alarm that wakes you up in the morning? I have had the same one on my I phone for years and didn't think to change it.
A few days ago I realised that I had a very negative reaction to the sound of it every morning as it remined me of all those groundhog days " oh hell, where am I, how late am I, how I am I ever gonna get out of bed and how much did I drink last night?? " moments.

So I have now downloaded a really cheerful happy song that I love which is now my alarm and I also leave it on my dressing table rather than my night table so I have to get up to turn it off. Every little tip helps!

It's been a while since I posted on here! I've been waking up at 7:30 every morning and it's great. My body's waking up naturally 5 minutes before my alarm. It was really painful at first but I'm used to it already. I can get so much done!
