Thanks again for the support Update: yes, it was my sponsor who spilled the beans. I simply confronted her. I didn't make a huge deal about it; I said I was uncomfortable and I will find a new sponsor. I won't report the employer, because frankly it would do me more harm from worrying.

On a positive note, I got a job offer from a different place and I think I'm going to accept!

And most importantly, two days away from 6 months sober

I'm glad you got another job offer!

That was a terrible, terrible thing to do. Since I do not participate in AA I don't know a lot about the program. Is there anyone in the organization who can be notified of such a betrayal of your confidentiality? This person should not be sponsoring others who seek a new life in recovery.

I'm glad you got another offer!! I can't believe this happened.. Just takes a few bad apples to give our program a bad name! Shame on that person "AKA sponsor"!

I'm curious too. Was she at least apologetic? She had to have known she screwed up big time.
And huge congrats on both the job and the sobriety!!!

SobrieTee - I stopped in to see how you're doing today - glad to see the good news about a job offer. Happy you weren't derailed by their ignorance.

No, my sponsor was not apologetic. She said "I thought you wanted to tell him and it wasn't a big deal."

But finding a new sponsor is hard... Ugh. Going to a meeting tonight. I dont even know how to approach it now.

Wow!! I'm in sales and work for a big corporation, some people think HR is their best friend and spill their beans to them about all kinds of stuff.. More power to them, I just mind my business and keep my head down.. I choose to keep my personal life to myself..

It totally blows me away she said that to you.. Kudos to you for such a positive attitude, keep going to meetings and you'll find the right sponsor!! I bet it's sooner than later.. Keep up the great work!!

I have no idea how it works in USA. But here they do not screen for anything other than if you have the skills and aptitude to be an asset to the company.

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Congratulations on

1. the sober time,
2. the new job offer
3. kicking this sponsor to the curb

and #3 is a very gentle response, I'd be tempted to take it a bit further

It is in Lansing Mi. Positive for Nicotine=not hired
