Repeat After Me:

Nothing is more important than my sobriety.

Nothing is more important than my sobriety.

Nothing is more important than my sobriety.

I almost lost my sobriety tonight -- I'm on Day 24 today -- over a deep and persistent sadness arising from personal issues; love lost, to be exact.

I'm at work right now, and AV was very sultry, so that I repeated the mantra above. All I have to do is make it to midnight without buying beer. When my focus started slipping, I called my buddy (we'll call him Radar) of longtime 12-step sobriety, and repeated that mantra to him.

Radar gave me some good advice about dealing with these feelings, and the worst is over.

I will not under any circumstances buy any alcohol.

I will not be defeated.

Nothing is more important than my sobriety.

Hi Thumpa;
It is so hard when the drinking costs you your relationship.
I know you've posted the irony that it happened just after you started seeking recovery.

That combination makes the AV pretty tough to quell at times,
but you are doing a great job so far being honest about what got you here,
supporting others, and working on your sobriety.
Each day you beat the AV you get a bit stronger and things start to clear.

I don't know if you have a chance to win her back,
but by staying sober, you are at least in the running.
Drinking, game over.

Even if it doesn't work out, you win because you have yourself back.
Sending you a hug

Maybe go home, play some scales in minor key, and write a song
about what's in your head and heart right now.
That's what music does best--transmutes suffering into beautiful audible gold

My neighbors need to be happy I haven't bought an amplifier for my electric yet ... they'd be in for it tonight lol

Seriously, though ... I lost my focus on serenity, and have gotten complacent. I have to accept that I do not have control over the future except insofar as my own actions are concerned. I have to abandon that.

ODAAT.

ETA: I should have written Day 25, not 24

Good post, Thump. Good for you by taking actions when you were struggling. That's all you need to do and keep doing. Feet forward, reaching out for help when you need it. If you feel the urge to drink, call a sober friend or post.

Yay Thump!

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Ah, yes. Love lost. One of the proximal triggers that moved me from Phase 3 to Phase 4 of my illness.

Stay sober, and life will be good again. Actually, why do I say "again?" It's generally not good while we're drinking. Do over: Stay sober, and life will be good in ways we can't even yet imagine.

Write some pros and cons on a board. Let the mind process the negatives compared to the positives. You got this.
