Ggt?
Hi,
I am not looking for medical advice at all - i am seeing doctors but my next appointment isn't until Monday and I am anxious.
I did something I have been putting off and dreading for years and got my bloodworm/liver panel done. ASL was normal, AST slightly elevated, GGT off the chart high. Like in the 400s. I researched and it seems this indicates significant liver damage but i am wondering if it is reversible. I will ask the doc the same question on Monday.
Just wondering if anybody remembers having a high GGT in liver tests and what happened. Thank you in advance.

I had really high AST and ALT levels, like triple the normal level, but they came back to normal after a few months of abstinence. I don't know much about GGT and I do not believe I have ever been tested. It seems like it's another way to test the liver's health, especially in cases of alcoholism, but I don't really understand the difference. Good luck to you!!
I still haven't gotten my blood work done (waiting for new insurance). So I don't have any experience to share. But my hope would be that your doctor wouldn't send you test results that were really bad news prior to seeing you and talking in person? I've only gotten bad news once and they called me right away.

It is completely possible to heal the liver. I am living proof. At 3 years sober, my liver is now completely healed. 3 years ago I was a mess. These days my doctors tell me they envy my blood work, as well as my blood pressure. Embrace sobriety and clean eating and you will be amazed at how you will reverse the effects of alcohol abuse.
I have no idea what GGT is or how you would interpret it Katie. It really is something for you to get your Dr to interpret and explain.
you might as well say what if it's Ebola...or the plague?
Statistically speaking, the great likelihood is it's not cancer, Katie.
Go see your Dr Monday and get some peace of mind.
Try not to worry all weekend.

what if is it liver cancer?

Katie, your doctor can ease your mind- be honest with him or her. The liver is a resilient organ that can regenerate itself- as long as you don't pick up a drink. Try to do something today to get this off of your mind. Take a walk, a nap or find a funny movie, anything but worry!

Hi Everyone - thank you to everyone who responded to my message. I showed up at my doctor's office as a ball of anxiety! She did assure me that my worst case fears are probably not something I need to worry about. She thinks it is a gall bladder issue and not a serious liver issue, but I still have to have the ultrasound. So, fingers crossed.

Thanks Scott! I appreciate your comment. I am so relieved because i really thought i may be a goner. I really hope other alcoholics do not do what I did and avoid the doctor for fear of what may be. Its so anxiety-provoking and unnecessary. I spent months and years worrying and worrying about going to the doctor and then i go in for my ultrasound today and see my liver on the screen and nervously asked the doctor, "do you see anything" and she kept saying no. i was shocked and stunned. so any fellow hypochondriacs out there, please just show up at the doctors office and get yourself checked.
