One year ago...

I am alone this Christmas, because of events related to my alcoholism that began to reach a crescendo around this time last year. A few days ago, a friend of mine sent me emails he had saved from that time period. What a huge difference a year makes! I don't have my kids with me, but they are safe and sound. I also have my life, good health, and my sobriety. Those are some of the most precious gifts of all. I may be alone, but I will remember this Christmas.

I am alone today too, not counting my dogs and cats' company. But I'm sober and glad of it.

Reminders of how far you've come can show up at just the right time to keep you going in the right direction. I'm glad you're kids are safe and sound and you're sober today.
