Good morning and hello
Good morning and hello
Hi, new around here just wanted to say hi. Trying (again) for sobriety (day 4), usually make it to day 5 or 7 probably every other week then usually find an excuse to have that lethal 'one drink' family meal, work stress etc....this usually leads to a week or so of nightly drinking then followed by a all day binge weekend....then I start again. I've found reading posts here, and the kindness/understanding shown helpful in my periods of short term sobriety, so thought I'd finally join. Hopefully interaction with good folk who 'have been there' or 'who are there' will give me strength to break my 3 yearly cycle of binge drinking. Sorry for the long post.
Welcome from a Southern member
in the fellowship of SR.
Being successful in recovery requires
applying many helpful tools and suggestions
of a recovery program in all areas of our
life.
We have to learn about our addiction
and its affects on our minds, bodies and
soul as well as others around us.
I had to learn that alcohol added fuel
to my already resentments, old habits,
failures to control not only my drinking
but people, places and things around me.
I have no control over them and requires
acceptance and tolerance of others and
things.
We never have to go thru anything or
figure out anything in life by ourselves
because there will always be someone,
somewhere 's that has been there done
the same similar things we've done.
Grab a hold of someone successful
in their own recovery life by their
coattails and hold on tight till you
learn how to live a healthy, happy,
honest life for yourself.
It will be the journey you take each
day you remain sober or clean that
will help you reach the destiny in life
that will give you your own ESH -
experiences, strengths and hopes
to share with others that will follow
you down the road.

Welcome to SR! Lots of good advice already, I hope we can help you make a plan to be ready for those moments when "one drink" sounds like a good idea. Because of course it never is, right?
Thank you for your kindness. Today hasn't been too hard thankfully. I aim to keep busy so me and my girlfriend joined the local gym, I worked on my car and am now sat in front of the tv with a big cup of tea reading these kind words. I'm only suffering sleepless nights no real withdrawals. I am anxious about the Christmas period, as like many others in my situation, I come from a heavy drinking family, where I will be surrounded by others drinking. I do believe that will be my hardest test
