What I did Instead of drinking last night

Hello all,

So yesterday as I was getting off from work I started to get the urge to drink. I didn't want to drink but my AV kept saying it was ok and that a few wouldn't hurt me. So I went home and talked to my wife and told her how I was feeling and she encouraged me to just stay the path. So I took my oldest outside and we tossed the ball around for a little bit.

After a really nice dinner my wife left for her classes. I still had that nagging little voice in my head. So I called my kids in the living room and asked them, "what do you want to watch with me?" My two oldest yelled Christmas movies while the two year old stared at us like something was wrong w/ us. LOL.

So we watched Santa Claus and Polar Express. My wife text and asked me what was going on and I told her about the Christmas movies. So she left class early, picked up some hot chocolate and cookies and headed home. We finished the night with Rudolph and Cocoa. I was in bed by 2230. Earliest for me in a long time.

Today is 3 weeks sober for me. That is the longest time for me in at least 7 years. Things are going good. There are for sure some ups and downs but pushing through. Thank you all for your support and hope everyone stays strong.

Thank you,

Scottie

thats awesome. when i was a kid I always wanted that and the 1 time i can remember going out with my stepfather to kick the soccer ball around all he did was rush me cause he had places to be and get angry with me about everyting i was doing wrong. All i wanted to do was kick the ball around and have fun. My stepfather was an alcoholic.

Good job. Often early on you need to really work to think of things you can do other than drink, when it had been your default answer to boredom for a long time.

I worry about people who talk about Alcoholic Voice, since it is so disassociative. But to each their own.

Scottie...Good job and thats a really nice story. Cuz i just imagine your kids remembering that time U spent with them down the road. I always remember little memories like that about my parents today!

Nice post Scotty, one mroe day accomplished.

On this site we often talk about making a plan for sobriety. I wondered, what would have been your plan if no one had been home that night?

That's brilliant and your evening sounds like it was wonderful. I need to watch some Christmas films and get festive!
