How to refuse drinks
Tell them you'll go out. When you're out bring something non-alcoholic and/or make sure non-alcoholic drinks are available. When offered an alcoholic drink say, "no thanks." If pressed, you can say, "I'm no stranger to alcohol but these days I don't drink." If they keep pressing just don't go out with them again.
In 7 years of sobriety, I have only had 2 occasions where "No thank you" wasn't enough. Neither were offensive, probably just curious. Both times I just followed with "I don't drink alcohol, it wasn't good for me" and that was that.
Replace alcohol with anything.. "Want some peas?" "no thank you." "Really? They're so good!" "Thanks, but I don't eat peas.".
I never understand why anyone who presses an issue like this thinks it's any of their business, but I can understand how the pressing of it would happen more in a setting like you describe. I really never go places where alcohol is offered, so my experience may be different.
