The Reasons Why -- This Site Is So Important To Me (Us)

Well, here I'm on the SoberRecovery site at 3:42 AM.

I come to visit here many times throughout the day and night.

As I sit here on this very early morning I think that one of the most important benefits of this site for me is the fact that -- coming here often keeps sobriety #1 on my mind. Ever reminding me that, slipping back to my drinking past would be the worst thing that I could possibly do today.

Your reasons shared would be appreciated.

Thank you all for being here
and
Have a blessed sober day,
MountainmanBob

I make sure i check in every day. like you, i find it's a great reminder to me that no matter how long i am sober, i am only one drink away from catastrophe. i can't afford complacency.

i don't post very often at the moment as my mental health is all over the place and my concentration is shot. but i love this place, and the support.

I will never be sober long enough to be alcohol proof - SR is my daily reminder/support as we share our global experience, strength and hope = remarkable.

I'm with all of you....SR keeps me grounded and not a day goes by that I'm not reminded why I came here in the first place. Thanks to all of you who make it possible.

A lot of good sobriety on this site and I enjoy reading what the newcomers have to say.

I still feel it is important for me to attend AA meetings but SR is a great compliment.

I learned I`m not alone. I`m not a freak.
I learned others have set a path and I just need to follow it.

Yes, I have observed ones who have stayed sober and take notice of how they've done it.

Why should we not take the easy path today ?

All of the above - it saved my life, I need the constant reminder. When I read posts from those just finding us & reaching out, it takes me back to my terrifying last days of drinking.

I also feel great when we're able to lift someone up out of despair and give them hope.

I had many failed attempts at sobriety before I found this site. SR provides the connection I need to others like me, to resist drinking. I also check several times a day, just to see how people are doing, and help where I can.

I love the connection with others who understand, being able to give and support, and just friendship and fun.

I was a lurker at the very beginning of contemplation about sobriety. Even then I thought "man, these people are pretty supportive".

Having seen the behavior on other non-related blogs, I was amazed by the respect and lack of trolling. Also, the mods watch out for this stuff while at the same time allowing members to be real with each other and discuss some pretty heavy stuff.

Then, when my personal shite-show hit the fan, I came back. It's always encouraging for me to witness all the strength and good will here.

So, I hang around.

By giving I'm getting. By getting I am giving. SR is one more thing I do on a daily basis to nurture my sobriety

The advice and wisdom shared here is pure gold. The companionship and support are invaluable. And of course, I need the daily reminders of what might happen if I'm not careful. Don't know where I'd be without SR!

reinforcing ones sobriety

The Reasons Why -- This Site Is So Important To Me (Us)

A place to come to in the middle of the night when most everyone else is sleeping. Talk about reinforcing ones sobriety.

I have been coming to SR for almost 10 years now. Although I rarely post anymore I do still browse through the postings on a regular basis. I do that because SR has been an integral part of my recovery program. Although I utilize the program of AA, I supplement with other things like SR which seems to have worked well for me as I celebrated 14 years of continuous sobriety this past March.

This site is important to me because it has provided several things; inspiration, insight, the opportunity to share ideas and thoughts, the opportunity to share questions and hear the input from people across the globe rather than just my limited area, the opportunity to occasionally help someone else in their sobriety, the opportunity to share in a fairly anonymous way some thoughts that I don't feel safe sharing in other settings and get feedback from that post, and the opportunity to both offer and receive support and encouragement.

I am truly grateful for this site and all the people who volunteer their time to help keep it running smoothly. It has been a blessing in my recovery.
