The new deal

The things I put into place after my slip, nearly 4 months alcohol free:

First, spoke with my GP, then visited my Psych doc.

1) Antabuse on hand for any days I feel a yearning.

2) Finally have days off to attend anxiety support group (again).

3) Prescription obtained for OCD/tic disorder... considering and researching it.

That's it for now.

you sound fortunate to have these things in place etc... gotta do what we gotta do to stay sober. as sobriety takes stronger and stronger root it gets easier too so you have that to look forward too.

I worked it out zjw . The GP was just a phone call and he called in a script for the Antabuse. The psych doc cost but oh well. I only purchased a small amount of antabuse because it's for days here and there if I have a feeling coming on, and it's really expensive. The other stuff I am considering and the anxiety group is free. I learned to break stuff up into more manageable bits financially and just got lucky with the anxiety group.

Good for you, Sleepie!!! That sounds like an awesome plan. I know it's really silly but I'd be too embarrassed to ask my doctor for antabuse - dumb, I know. I imagine an anxiety support group would be great :-)

I have always been honest with my GP. He knows my history and has known me for many years. So he gets it. It's a good thing at least he is very supportive, where the psych is rather invalidating and dismissive.

It's pretty bad people in professions like that where they are dealing with mental health issues to be jerks - terrible, in fact.

I know Shabby. It always makes such a huge difference when a doctor offers real support. My GP was sorry to hear I had fallen off, which was kind of nice they were concerned... said they hope I do well and stressed I should attend a group. It's just good to know they actually care. They fully understand my anxiety issues as well. So the anxiety group should be good, I was going for awhile then kept missing it because of work. I knew it wasn't going to go well after missing several groups. Plus they only meet once a month.

I'm so glad you have such a good relationship with your GP Sleepie. I think that makes a big difference in the care you receive. You are really being super pro active, you should be proud of yourself. :-)

Thanks, Quirky, I am!
Would be nice to hear from some of the "you're too negative" people... we'll see. I think these are pretty "positive steps".

I have to say this med I was prescribed sounds too good to be true. If I had a single day without suffering tics I would be so, so relieved. But Ideally I want to give my poor organs and body a real, long term rest without putting any pills into them. It's been well over a decade without a pill and or alcohol going into me. I'm going to call my GP Monday and see what he thinks.

Sleepie, what impresses me is your relationship with you. You truly are a Titan.

Thank you trach, I especially felt bad after my slip considering the thread you began for me.

I feel really good about these changes. It's a plan, of sorts. I have some other things in mind but will mention them once they are in action.

yeah i'm a bit jealous sounds like you got a good doc and this anxiety support group sounds cool. I wish i coulda found something like that early on. I'm gonna keep my eyes and ears open see if i can hear of something like this in my area.

Yeah obviously no pills or toxins is always ideal and always a good goal to shoot for. I tried various supplements and this and that early on but always had my eye on the prize of being free from it all etc..

Sleepies, even titans fall down sometime.

Being cynic or pessimist or nihilist by nature does not negate fact that taking steps forward is ONLY chance you has to reach desired destination.

That is true cow thanks!
zjw, I have this anxiety group through my shrink, who happens to kind of specialize with anxiety I think- he was the only dr in the are that I found who would do a benzo taper- along with that came the group meetings. Maybe google into shrinks who specialize in anxiety/benzos and see if anyone offers a group.
