I have not tried it but have always been curious if hypnosis could work on me. I typically get a lot out of guided meditations with the right guide, although the "right" person is key as most of them have no effect on me at all other than I either get bored or start to analyze what they are saying. It was very interesting for me though when I first found the meditation teacher I grew very fond of, how suggestible I felt by him. But he is pretty much the only one having that effect and I've tried quite a few. Why him -- I think it has to do with his voice and definitely what he is saying in a session and how it's formulated and structured, and also with him as a person, my perception of him and his work. I respect him very much and can easily accept him as a mentor or authority, which is definitely not the case for me with just anyone, I'm very selective. But anxiety is exactly one of the main things I use meditation for and it does work for me given I do it regularly.
I had an SR friend here a good while ago (he's no longer around I think) who tried hypnosis, both self-hypnosis using some apps that can be downloaded and with a hypnotherapist, and said he liked both a lot and found them effective. I also know someone who does hypnosis in her clinical practice to help change thought processes and behaviors, and she has many patients coming to her for it so there must be something in it I believe. She says for alcoholics and addicts, it usually works better once they quit and are trying to stay sober rather than as an aid to get sober in the first place.
Sleepie, if you are interested, I would say go ahead and try it! I am not sure how effective the self-hypnosis tools can be but there is many you could explore online.

Yes yes yes!!!!
I use it for sleep, anxiety and depression.
At the moment I watch/practice/listen to hypnotherapy video's on you tube before I go to sleep.
Other times I put one on and try and have a quiet half hour relax and listen to them.
I paid for a professional course too for sleep issues.
A professional medical hypnotist - not a show person type entertainment one where the audience are told to act like chickens.
It is something you can teach yourself to do.
I was drinking too much to try and fall asleep and that's where my problems started.
If you google them on you tube there is a woman called jodywhitely I think and a man called Tom sealy.
I find them a huge comfort at night time. I watch them on my iPad in bed.
Let me know what you think?
I am excited to see if you find them a benefit!
Might take a few goes, a few listens.

Sleepie, I had professional hypnotism from an MD who specialised in it. I didn't quit smoking. I also had it for insomnia but it didn't work. I have since used hypnotism for pain control and insomnia. It works if you work it. It's necessary to use it twice a day. It's a habit of mind, I think. I use tapes. It starts with progression relaxation, counting breaths and such.
I suppose one could use an aversion type deal to quit drinking but from what I've been told, it's common to just replace one compulsive behavior for another. The root cause has to be treated.
You might try a tape for stress and anxiety reduction. The ones I use are 20 minutes long. Best used at bedtime and then again during the day.
Can't hurt to try it.
