I wound up with the shingles. I went to the doctor, disclosed all my addiction and alcoholism info, proudly told her I was 11 months sober and she gave me an antiviral and prednisone and home I went. Hi Jennifer, I'm on predisinone right now, I didn't get an allergic reaction but many side effects. I was informed not to go near anyone with measles or chicken pox, as our immune system is so low we are open to anything passing by.
In saying that, you're never prepared for an allergic reaction!

I hope they find a suitable medication for you. Thinking of you and pleased you can still keep smiling.

Mags....that is some nasty medication. I'm just dealing with the pain. I'm not very nice right now. Thanks everyone for the words. I wish I was in a better mood, I think that is whats upsetting me the most. I am not my usual peaceful, I crap rainbows, self. I'm just angry. Nasty. Irritable like I've never been. Hopefully I get through this soon. I want myself back.

Hope you feel better soon. I too had a very bad reaction to Prednisone a few years ago after a minor surgery. Put me in a manic state and I was up for 4 days straight. It was awful, but got through and you will too.

shingles suck

For me, anger would often come up with illness in the first year of sobriety and even now sometimes.

It's like your emotional "control wall" drops or something.

I found out I was too, after a bout of poison ivy, and had the same steroid induced psychosis. Very scary. Hope they find an alternate treatment for you.
