I personally was never given an ultimatum. I think it would have helped if I had. I continued to drink longer than I should have as I was able to get away with it. I finally quit for myself, but seeing my husband worry about me definitely escalated my desire to do the right thing.

I got PISSED when a partner or loved one asked me to quit .
it just made me more sneaky and creative abot my addiction

I don't think there's one right answer - all I can share is my experience - an ultimatum would not have worked for me.
