Iconoclastic, I looked it up. Stedman's Medical Dictionary defines allergy as "a hypersensitivity of the body cells to a specific substance that results in various types of reaction". This is the broader medical sense of the term. I believe this is the sense in which Dr. Silkworth was using the term when he wrote the 1937 Journal article called "Alcoholism as a Manifestation of Allergy". It can be read here>>>>>Alcoholism as a Manifestation of Allergy

I don't believe the article could have ever passed peer review if his use of the term allergy needed to be in the more narrow sense of the term which has the connotation of an antigen.

Even six left me craving more, more so than if I had drank zero. If it wasn't 12 it left me more angry than I guess none would have made me, although I have very few examples of not having any, up until I stopped. Thoughts?
It's like you read my mind. Many a time I've gone out and not had enough (in my head... I'd easily had enough in reality) and gone searching for the 24 hour shops that serve booze under the counter... drinking cans in the park at 2am brings you no dignity.

going through the horror of only having a few and runing out then too drunk to go drive and get more? oh god no i learned my lesson there a long long time ago. Its like a smoker checking to see if he's got enough cigarettes to get him through.

I didnt have a drinking problem or anything *sigh*
Spot on for me. The thought of running out before I was completely comatose scared me

Having the fridge stocked with beer was a total oxymoron for me. No sooner would I put them all in and have the one to celebrate would I begin the process begin of taking them all out again.

A big supermarket up the road used to and probably still does 45 bottles of whatever you like for 15 bucks. I used to get that on the regular and multiples of it. It was a false economy for sure.

From what I understand from a close relative who is allergic to peanuts, there is no antigen for it. Does that mean she doesn't suffer from a peanut allergy which can be deadly?
Nope. The same antigen that works for her has worked for me with alcoholism. The antigen of abstinence.

Definitely absurdly cheap, half the country was going across the border for these deals. It used to be on the news a lot until the government took some tax off beer or something to make things more competitive.

I would put 45 beers in the fridge and think to myself 'now, they should last a while'. Crack one open then wake up 18 hours later with 45 empty bottles, or maybe 2 or 3 left. Not even a moneysaver man, forget it.

I came to the conclusion then that the trick was to not put them all in at once. So I would put 10 or 15 in, then wake up with 30 gone and a couple exploded in the freezer. So it was slowing me down but same result!

If I ever had a doubt-it was obvious when I mixed alcohol and my medications and stopped breathing and had to have a friend give me rescue breathing.

My understanding of what an an alcoholic is ...if it costs you more than it offers and you continue to drink..beyond rational reasoning...not how much or how often..a progressive mental obsession and physical sensitivity to the effects.

The past few days I've been contemplating the idea that drinking in this fashion is really a form of masochism/self harm, which is a little disconcerting
