I need sleep though mate. I have a hormone problem and it's very important that I get 8 hours of sleep, every night.

Have you spoken with your doctor about the sleep problems? You mentioned that nothing was mentioned about it in your last visit. Perhaps you could let them know.

Everyone is different. I've had 3 quits and I was sleeping like a baby within a couple of days each time. 8 hours straight thru.

I know you don't want to hear this, but you've got to just be patient and power through this.

Some people, myself included, have to deal with not sleeping quite a bit after quitting.
Half the issue for me was mental as well--intense anxiety and worry.
Sounds like you've had plenty of that also, so perhaps you need to think about
what you can do to relax before sleeping, and to realize this will pass with time and patience.
Patience isn't my strong suit, and it doesn't sound like yours either, but that is what it takes.

One concern I have is that I wanted to use my not sleeping as an excuse to pick up a drink, since I, like you, "needed my eight hours."

Don't do that. Just your AV voice trying to tempt you.
It will get better. You didn't do this to your body in 8 days and it may take longer than 8 days, or two weeks, etc. to fully recover.

It will improve with time--hang in there

I needed my eight hours too, and now, sober, I get them
