The 3rd attempt at detoxing.

I'm on my 3rd attempt at detoxing in a month. Sunday will be my day of no alcohol.

Congratulations on deciding to stop, do you have plenty of support to help get through the first few days?

What happened on your last attempts?

Let us know how you're getting on

If I could get through the first 48 hours I'll be on my way to a life of sobriety. no joke. I'm using my daughter's (now 5) spring break to do this. She is going to Knotts and I will be home detoxing.

What happened? You were on day 2 and seemed optimistic.

Tell us what happens to keep you stuck at two days.

What are you doing differently this time?

What extra support do you have in place so that you can get past the first few days?

Gettting through without drinking. That's key. And what's your plan to accomplish that?

hi lionofjudah, call me a cranker, but i have been following your posts, and it seems you've tried several times. So far its not been successful and that's fine. As long as you keep trying. you have a 5 year old....

If your daughter is away and you plan on detoxing, it's going to seem like a long day.

Why not waste an hour or two at an AA meeting? What have you got to lose?

You can do this. Most people told me that if I was doing this for anyone but myself than it wouldn't work. That being said my biggest motivation other than not killing myself was and is my family. I made a mess with my relationship with my wife and kids. Kids are great despite me. The relationship is still not perfect but improving daily. I've said this before but a great personal motivation for me is my grandsons (2&5) having no memory of a drunk grandpa.
Your daughter deserves a Mom who is all there for her don't you think? I know (through too much experience) this is a tough journey to get started on and there's lots of twists and turns along the way but it's well worth it.
Wishing you the best

Detoxing from alcohol is a dangerous business. It sounds like you're struggling enough with it that I really think you should strongly consider a medical detox. Keep in mind alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawals are the only ones that can actually kill you. I'm not exaggerating. I saw a guy die in detox.

LOJ, this is doable. I did it very recently myself. But, like you, I tried a number of times on my own and also tended to lose it on the second day.

Please, please consider getting some support to shore up your efforts. Detox helped me tremendously -- it was only a few days, they kept the worst withdrawals at bay, and when I came out I was clean enough to carry the ball forward myself.

I went immediately to an AA meeting for moral support and I continue to go daily. I'm not sure I'll go forever, but it's helping a LOT with the early stages.

Get some support; it really helps!!!!!
