They look happy & full of promise.

It just takes a single black out drunk & any of us could have woken up with the horrible knowledge that we were responsible for something this heart-breaking. Except that we wouldn't have remembered, we would have been told the story of what happened...

One of the greatest gifts of sobriety is knowing that I will retain the ability to consciously control my own actions...every moment, for the rest of my life. And that I get to always remember everything that happens to me...

Yes, what a terrible waste. One of my kid's teachers lost her two children to a drugged driver right in front of her. Good Lord.

thanks for the reminder....

coulda been me.....

coulda been my children....

coulda been my responsibility....

never gonna be.

Thing #874 to be grateful about in sobriety; knowing I will never be at risk of harming others in a drunk driving accident.

4 dead in this DUI Crash with a .208 BAC registering in the Perp's Corpse.

Both Vehicles had their left sides torn off. The Drunk was driving a full-size Truck almost identical to mine. Air Bags can do little in these non-frontal Crashes.

The Colorado Legislature has declined to date to make repeated DUIs a Felony Offense.

I simply can't imagine what the surviving, uninjured Wife saw, and now has to endure.

From the Linked Article:

'Macias-Marquez [the drunk Perp] had five alcohol-related traffic convictions, most recently in 2005 to which he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year in jail, The Greeley Tribune [a local Newspaper] reported.'

'The Tribune also reported that at a funeral for Martinez's husband and sons [the Victims], donation checks brought by attendees were apparently stolen.'

So sad. But so glad I'm sober now and no longer one of those drunken drivers.
