I've been a bit raw for the last few weeks. Today just set me off. I've been weepy and teary since I got on here and read some of the news. And it's turned to anger.
I am SO GODDAM TIRED of people dying from addiction. I know it happens every day. I know winter is the worst time for us. But, for god's sake, stop!
Death is inevitable, I know. Well acquainted with it. Our particular, self-inflicted version is more than tragic. It's insanity. Maybe they should lock us all up for our protection.
Sorry. Thanks for reading.

I'm sorry you're hurting Trach.
One if the hardest lessons I had to learn was I can't save anyone else.
I can share my experience tho - and sometimes that's enough....
there are many success stories here - Please don't lose sight of that

You don't need to be General Manager of the Universe Trach
It's great that you care - but if caring too much is hurting you, there's probably a lesson there?
I don't see a virtue in wearing yourself out.
I'm not saying don't care - I'm saying remember where your responsibilities end?

People have been dying from alcoholism since before "they" (whoever they are) wrote the bible.
Corperations expect a certain percentage of their work force to have problems with alcohol and drugs.
10-15% of the population has a problem with alcohol or drugs or both.
The best thing for you to do, is to help! Its human nature to help out our fellow human beings. Its not just a bible thing, or an AA thing, its human nature.
So the next time you see a bum asking for change, give him an AA pamphlet, or pray with the man. I have seen people of religion pray with complete strangers on the sidewalk.
Its good your eyes are now open. Now that they are, you can put that into action. Few seldom do!

trachemys, I have noticed a general edginess to many posts recently. I'm inclined to attribute this to S(easonal) A(ffective) D(isorder). I think alcoholics are particularly susceptible. This is generally brought on by a persons prolonged lack of exposure to sunlight during the winter months. I would always get it bad just about this time of year. Extra vitamin D and moving to a more southern latitude (where I can be outside) has helped enormously.
The losses you have experienced are certainly reason enough to feel bad. I'm just saying that they might be amplified through a seasonal affective disorder. Just a thought.
