I just poured all my drink down the sink...

It's gone. Every drop. And I'm so relieved!!!

Good for you, sarahlou. Well done. Have you removed all alcohol from your home?

Did you end up going to a meeting last night?

sarahlou87 02-05-2015 07:17 AM

It's all gone. I poured every single drop away. Someone told me it would risk others' sobriety if I went last night but later it clicked. I've got someone taking me to a meeting tonight and I've got someone staying with me throughout my drying out too :)

That sounds like real progress. You also said you would see a doctor. Can you go to the doctor today with the person who's staying with you as you dry out before the meeting starts? It's best to get this in place now while you're sober as you're likely to delay it again if you drink. Get out of the viscous circle.

That's wonderful news!!! I read your 'something clicked' thread last night.

I did go see my doctor, but I wasn't allowed detox meds, unfortunately. But.. I'll soldier on.

good for you it took me over a year to give away my last beers and almost 2 to finally part with the 5 gallon buckets of wine I had made...... I was always afraid what if I needed it..... I never needed it to begin with and don't need it now that was all just a lie my AV was telling me.

good job!

You done fantastic sarah

Awesome !!

Great job! Unfortunately, that relieved feeling I always had was always replaced with craving once the alcohol left my system. Be prepared, but that goes away if we do not ever feed it again. That is the key. :)

I'm really glad you poured out the alcohol. New life!

I wanted to quote this statement that I bolded above.

One thing I know for sure: No one else's sobriety has anything at all to do with me. That's their disease speaking. I am not God and I have no control over what others do - be that good or bad. If someone is going to drink it is not my fault and if they decide to stay sober, that is not to my credit. I don't have that kind of power that my very presence can influence someone to drink or not.

One of the really good things learned in AA is to "stay in your own hula hoop" - meaning, work on you. What other people think and do is not your problem. They have their life and you have yours. Stick with the things you can control - you and your reactions.

I am more of a binge drinker. I drink myself stupid for a few weeks, then I just knock it on the head for a few months. While this is not an ideal way to live, it suits me better than drinking every day.

I enjoy it to much. I love pubs. But my binges are getting less and lesser. I couldn't do it without professional help.

Hope that the meeting is going well; thinking of you.
