I realised I don't want to wake up reaching for a drink. I don't want to kill myself drinking. And I've got a great support network. So, as hard as it'll be, I'm going to my GP.

Yeah it is hard to get the words out that you've lost control of the drink, but you won't regret it. My sister is a GP and she says they often know someone's drinking too much but can't get them to admit it, so you'll impress him/her if you're totally honest.
