I am new here and I am an alcoholic.

Last week I realized that I am an alcoholic. I will be 50 this year and have drank since I was 14, for 36 years I have been under the influence of alcohol...this is really hitting home, hard.

I decided last Monday night to stop drinking, 7 days sober. Thankfully mild withdrawals, although tonight a fairly vicious headache. I'm glad to find this spot in cyberspace.

Welcome Jane. What a fantastic effort. I was like you in that i had given up drinking for a short time before I found SR. It's getting close to 3 years for me now, without a program, and I believe that being on SR has been a big influence on keeping me sober. That and loving not hating myself.

Welcome Jane and congrats on the 7 days. I have only been here a short time and have been able to find a wealth of information. Not to mention others stories that have hit close to home.

You and I have an identical drinking years under our belts, we are the exact same age. I'm over 100 days sober now (to my utter amazement) and im not going to say it's been easy. I hope I can stay sober for the long haul. If you ever need to hang out with others that are facing the same struggle as you, the chat room is a great source of support. Might see you in there
