Did you replace alcohol with something else in early recovery?

NA beer out of desperation for the real thing and slowly taking myself off that now... Reasons are simple. I was at the store looking to relapse so I tried this first and haven't gone to anything else and in fact have reduced my total drinking r habits. Working towards my 90-100 days and ridding myself of this crutch but very happy it's pacified me in the mean time.

I craved food. The obvious sugar in the form of Reese's and Milky Way and Ben / Jerrys. Pasta by the pound also.
As for replacing the cup or can in hand habit. Remove the ketel from the cranberry and replaced with ginger ale. The cost per sip plummeted but of course now I pursue higher end ginger ale rather than Canada dry.

Like many others, I binge ate. I allowed myself to substitute food for booze. Pizza, meatball subs, fast food lol. Then once I physically got away from the booze for a couple days or week or so, I then worked on substituting for healthier food options. But when I stopped drinking, I just told myself I could eat whatever I wanted as long as I didn't touch booze.
In early recovery I found that small amounts of Ben & Jerrys, like a couple of tablespoons, worked on cravings. Hot tea with milk and sugar has gotten me through many a cocktail hour pretty well, preferably with buttered crackers. Also I used hard candies -- lollipops throughout the day at work. I also picked up cigarettes. Those things replaced some of the specific oral and physical aspects of drinking.
I resort to them less and less frequently now, but I still keep B&J in the freezer and a bowl of lollipops in the house.
Did someone say sugar!? I have 3 years clean and I still turn to sugar in times of peril. Lol. I have cut back a lot however, I don't eat an entire pint of ice cream anymore, Ill just have a small bowl.
Fountain diet coke, LOTS of it. I will make trips to the 24 hour gas station at 3 in the morning to get it. Starburst, Nerds, and just little snacks. I feel the need to constantly be munching. It is still probably less than all the calories I got every night from wine tho!
