Woke up in a Daze
Woke up in a Daze
Exactly one year ago I awoke to a different life. I was sent home from my job [last night] because of a random alcohol screening. Haven't worked since.
Imagine telling your spouse you lost your job. Imagine what must be going though their heads. Imagine all of the things you had planned for the upcoming year (and beyond) suddenly pulled out from under you. Imagine all the promises you made suddenly seeming to be empty dreams. And also imagine Christmas is one week away.
Then imagine saying to yourself, "I will never again let alcohol affect my life."
Too bad it took something like that for me to finally say it.
Don't wait for something 'bad' to happen to you. If you are concerned about your drinking or if you feel - or someone else in your life feels it - you are heading in the wrong direction, do something about it before it's too late to prevent that life changing event.
You don't have to "hit bottom" to turn your life around. Do it now. Do it for yourself. Living is so much better without it. It really is. You may not realize it at first, but give it time and you'll one day exclaim, "Why did I wait so long!" I have an entirely different perspective on life now. A much better outlook. And a keener sense of self.
It's never too late to get sober, if you are still alive. More importantly, IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY TO GET SOBER.

LBrain - thank you so much for a heartfelt and valuable post. I'm sure it will help many to do the right thing.
I waited too long to stop too - knew it was trouble from the very beginning. You're right, it shouldn't take something catastrophic happening to make us see the light.
Congratulations on your one year of enlightenment (if not complete sobriety) - I'm so glad you aren't back in that awful place.

I am very happy for you, mate! You are one of the people on the boards with sobriety date relatively close to mine, that I find quite a lot in common with in terms of world view and some thought processes. Also same here on not waiting till the most gruesome phases of this affliction to turn it over and I too, can't emphasize this enough to newcomers. It's so good to see people coming up on one year of solid sobriety during these few months
You seem like a pretty goal-oriented person; I am sure you will find a new, probably better job if that's what you aim for. Thanks for all the great contributions to SR!
Thanks everyone. Just to clarify, my sober date is 12/28/14.
That is another funny/sad but true anecdote related to rehabs. I'll share that another time. I was reminded that everything started a year ago when my journey to a better life began.

Thanks for the powerful reminder.
Not too long ago (Some 3 or 4 months ago) i was sent home from work as well for being under the influence of alcohol.
Today i'm 76 days sober. And feel like i'm getting my life back in order.
