Woke up in a Daze
i know what you meant congrats for the 28th my friend
I meant to post this thread in the newcomers forum... doh!
And since you are all intrigued by now... When I entered rehab on the 28th I had to be "evaluated" first. The day before, I spoke to my EAP rep and when I told her I quit drinking ten days ago she panicked. She said they would not accept me into rehab if I quit drinking on my own. AND, that the insurance wouldn't cover it etc. It was a catch 22. I was being forced into rehab but they wouldn't take me. She told me to get drunk and show up with a hangover. Even better if I tested positive. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. This actually happened. So I 'complied'. Otherwise my sobriety date would be now. Aw, the American way. I love it.
Thanks for all your comments. I was going to move this to the newcomers but it already has a lot of mileage.
My wife and I are going out to see the Hobbit - first movie I will have seen in a real movie house in over ten years. Her request of course. Stopping for sushi on the way.

"Don't wait for something 'bad' to happen to you. If you are concerned about your drinking or if you feel - or someone else in your life feels it - you are heading in the wrong direction, do something about it before it's too late to prevent that life changing event."
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ this^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ a thousand tenfold. A few trips to emerg for stitches a few times still wasn't enough for me to think my drinking was "bad" enough. Still had a job, great family, license...I don't know what made me realize that all those things will be gone if I kept my wine habit up, but I thank whatever it was that made me stop. Day 81 here, and going strong. Thank you for all your support, and congrats

Atta boy, LBrain. This post really hit home for me. I'm extremely fortunate to have not left a path of drinking destruction behind me. Sometimes, though, my alcoholic thoughts point back to that lack of ruin and try to lead me towards a sense of complacency. "It is never too early to get sober" is very simple and it strikes truth right into me. Thank you and congrats!
