What is the average age-range in here? Round 2
These numbers tell me that...
if you are 25 or under you don't believe your drinking will catch up to you (you are different than THAT guy over there behind the tree);
if you're older than 25 you've begun see the damage and by your 40s or 50s you've managed to get it together, or NOT; and
if you're over sixty you're either dead from drinking or you don't have time for this drinking bullsh*t!!!
Uh oh.
What the hell am I doing here?

Hi CR,
I have puzzled on the numbers too and I agree with you that the 25 and under crowd is simply too young to think its a problem but I think the shortage of over 60 folks on SR is more related to the fact that older folks are less inclined to use an internet based chat forum. When I attend my local AA meetings there are lots of folks over the age of 60 attending. At many of the meetings I attend easily a third and sometimes as many as half the members are over 60. I wonder if the AA groups will thin out and decline over time as the internet user base grows and ages.

maybe there is no shortage of over 60 folks on SR and maybe we just didn’t take part in this poll for various reasons?
i am 64 and have not plugged that into the poll as the age ranges offered pissed me off, frankly. here is why:
most ranges given are somewhere around 8to 10 years apart. until you get to 60.
then, suddenly, it is just “60 and over”, as if all of us over 60 were/are kinda the same, age-wise, with no real differences/changes to be experienced in what might well be thirty or thirty-five or even more years.
just an observation and cranky opinion.

I know I voted cause it says at the bottom: you have already voted in this poll.
I forget when I voted, but I'm 68 now, maybe a little wiser but I notice more aches and pains than what I used to have. But as long as I'm above ground, I'm doing alright.

I just did some research on this topic. Age data polling is pretty common and there are some generally agreed on thoughts on the matter. FWIW this would be a more typical poll range.
Under 18 (we might choose to exclude this one due to the subject matter)
18-24
25-34
35-44
45-54
55-64
65-74
75+
One item I read said that the ultimate age poll asks for the person to input their year of birth but at least to me it seems like too much data for this site to handle.
A suggestion if you guys agree. Have Dee close this thread and open a new age poll with the age ranges listed above. Also since the newcomers section gets the most traffic maybe put it there... Or maybe we do one poll in the Alcoholism section and one in the Substance Abuse section? Or maybe I'm just overthinking this whole thing and we should do nothing?

We cover the entire spectrum of newlyweds to nearly deads.
As for me, I'm 62.
To quote, Jerry Jeff Walker "Somedays I'm more gone than here."
Actually, quite blessed.
Getting ready to go for a nice run (to use that term loosely and charitably).

Never thought about that but I do know this board seems quite female heavy. Although it is ever evolving I'm sure, it seems like there is more females here that males. I'd be curious on that percentage.
I was trying to stop drinking from when I was 28 years old on. I never stopped until last year when I was 42. I don' t know why I took so long. I guess I needed to prove it to myself that it was a hopeless state of affairs. I'm glad I've seen the light now. The 40's are going to be my decade to thrive. I'm realizing all kinds of 'duh! life lessons' as part of my 'growing up' while sober. It's time to be an adult and now I'm realizing, have things in life that excite me too.
