Baclofen

Does anyone have experience with this? I started on this today after requesting it from my doctor. Naltrexone gives me nausea so I gave up with that.

I've read about it. I suppose it could help some people. Hard to accept it as a 'cure'.

My mother was on baclofen for her own addiction and to tell you the truth it never worked, mainly because it was never taken correctly. This is not the case for all people so take it as advised and try to keep up with therapy because a pill alone will not solve your problems.

My mother takes baclofen but it is for muscle spasms and tightness due to multiple sclerosis. Actually glad I saw your post as after reading a bit more about the medication I have some questions for her Dr.

It did say that there are 'other uses' for it but I didn't read those.

Nope no paper. It must be fairly safe as people are having quiet large doses. Even the doctor that discovered it.
You need to take it two or 3 times a day so it might be a pain for some people to remember.

I had a bad experience coming off it, but I was but a lad (non drinker then) using it for other reasons related to cerebral palsy, and with a Dr who didn't know much about withdrawing from it.

I hope it works for you

When I said I was a lad I wasn't kidding, it was the 80s Sober...I really can't remember, sorry.

I'm sure your Dr knows a heck of a lot more than mine did

My doctor didn't know much at all but had heard good things. She joked I could be the Guinea pig.
I just don't want a F around with the withdrawals. I'm only on 30mg a day so hoping I can avoid that.

Well I powered through days one, two and now three with out even an urge to drink.
It's to early to make any claims on Baclofen but it seems to be getting me results.

It sounds like you took it for similar reasons as my mom (CP/MS). Do you remember if it helped you for the CP? What kind of withdrawals? I'm worried about her taking this medication as it said it can cause dizziness and unsteady balance - just what my 68 year old mother with MS and osteoporosis who has already broken a hip and her femur twice needs - a drug that makes her more likely to fall. Thinking about changing her neurologist - she doesn't like him much anyways. Really glad for this thread even though for me it's unrelated to alcoholism.

Thanks again!!!

It did give me increased mobility - I was probably the most mobile I've ever been - but I was also a teenager, and the mobility continued after I stopped so who knows?

The withdrawal for me was mostly a fever state, hallucinations, aches - like I was ill. No balance issues.

I went back on the stuff and came off gradually like I should have been advised to.

All this was 30 years ago

Any decent doctor will take into account your mom's balance issues etc, I'm sure, walking.
Always good to get a second op if you're concerned

I haven't had any balance issues and I work up a ladder. (Touches wood)
