what do you do when...

you are craving a drink. To get it off your mind. I have went for a walk, tried getting into a movie, and reading. I need some ideas.

Some people laugh, but I swear it works...Eat a big bowl of ice cream. It will satisfy the craving for sugar that your body is wanting. I ate a lot of ice cream during early recovery and there was never a time it didn't work.

Eating something sweet with a hot cup of tea always helps me too! Something about my stomach being full takes away the craving.

I agree with ice cream or something sweet to eat. Also, I found distracting myself with games on my ipad or computer worked well. Seemed like a bit of a time waster, but it certainly was better than drinking. You can do it!

Took the words right out of my mouth....
My sponsor always says, "Meetings, meetings, meetings."

For me, that is the one place that I know I will be safe. The other thing I did that really helped with cravings was to talk to my sponsor about it. Talking it out really helps.

When I was early in recovery I used to walk my dogs when I had cravings to drink. They were happy cause they got lots of walks and I was happy cause I stayed sober.

My doctor told me that it was anxiety doing this to me. When you crave a drink you get anxious and the more you think about drinking, the anxiety increases.

Funny you say that. Since i've stopped drinking my cat seems so much happier. He likes the sober me better I believe

I did this last night and it worked.

But I can't help to think getting a juicer and some organic fruit and making a nice tall glass of fresh fruit juice would be much better for our bodies deficiencies from alcoholism. I might try it.

I journal/song write, eat/drink water until I'm full, lift weights/walk around the town while listening to philosophy/music, browse this forum or watch youtube videos.

Luckily for me the Beer store closes at 6pm each night but Friday (9pm). If I can just push myself past those times I'm home free

One of the greatest things about not drinking is the time it opens up. At first I viewed this as a negative because I was bored or angry a lot of the time but my perspective has changed.

What have you always wanted to do?

Paint?
Write?
Get into great shape? (if you aren't already)

Through our recovery we can find ourselves in more than one way.

Best to you sb.
