Hi all i'm David and this is my first thread. thanks for having me. hopefully we can stay sober together. i haven't drank today but i did yesterday. 2 40s and a 24 ounce. my drinking has been increasing through the years to a worrisome level. i wake up feeling horrible and telling myself i need to stop drinking. why is there so many triggers? i hear a song, i want to drink. i play a game, i want to drink. i see a movie, i want to drink. triggers! triggers everywhere!
Welcome stemmy and congrats on Day1. "triggers" seem like they are everywhere, but in reality it's simply your addiction wanting to get drunk. The good news is that it gets a LOT easier as you get some sober time under your belt - but the first few days are very difficult. Do you have any local support at all?

thanks for the replies all.
i've been "wanting to quit" for years now. it's like i argue with myself in my head for reasons to go buy a drink or 3. so many reasons TO drink and never about why i shouldn't drink. but this site brings me hope. i feel good just talking about it with someone that understands me. together we can persevere!

Welcome stemmy, it will get better with time. One day at a time, one hour at a time, sometimes maybe one minute at a time. For me the first week was the hardest. Hang out with us. We have a chat room, and post whenever. We care. I am glad you are joining us on this sober journey.

welcome to SR. Alcohol worked it's way into all my thinking and dominated my life. I am now more free than I could have imagined. I hope it works out that way for you.

As promised.
Sweets really do help the cravings - I always had a large bag of dark chocolate M&Ms in the freezer to help me get through.

hi Stemmy, and welcome.
if you google AVRT you'll find useful tools for how to deal with triggers. there are threads about it in the 'secular connections' forum farther down.
i wanted to quit for a long time, too, and finally, i did. triggers and all
