Boost, with James Woods and Sean Young. A year later, Woods played Bill Wilson in My Name Is Bill W., and Sean Young became notorious for her addictions later in her career.

I have a little collection of these types of movies to watch when required:

A Woman Under The Influence (Peter Faulk 1974)
28 Days (Julia Roberts 2000)
Barfly (1987)
Clean And Sober (1988)
Days Of Wine And Roses (Jack Lemmon 1962)
Factotum (2005)
Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
My Name Is Bill W (1989)
The Lost Weekend (1945)
When A Man Loves a Woman (1994)

And as someone posted above.....Rain In My Heart which is on youube.....There is no way on earth I would drink that day if I watch that.

If you liked Requiem, I would recommend pretty much anything by the director, Darren Aronofsky. He is one of my favorite movie directors. Most of his movies have some type of obsession theme and he handles that topic so well. Quite a lot of disturbing psychological stuff, too. My favorites by him are Pi and The Fountain.

"Girl interrupted" is a good one! It reminded me of another great movie with Angelina Jolie that has addiction theme, Gia.

I just happened to watch this last night (I wasn't actively looking for an addiction film) and thought it was great. It's the story of Chris Herren who was a high school and college basketball star and played in the NBA. During that time he also became an alcoholic and drug addict which eventually ruined his career (and almost killed him). You can find it by searching "Chris Herren Unguarded" on google or YouTube (also on Vimeo). It was a "30 for 30" film that aired on ESPN.

The Metallica documentary chronicling Hetfield's journey was pretty darn good. I'm reading the book on the making of it right now.

Just saw "When a Man Loves a Woman" last night. Wow, did her drinking habits match mine?! Even though I despise Michael Bolton, I was touched by that movie in a lot of ways. Not only issues dealing with addiction, but it's impact on children. That is, by far, the most painful spot when it comes to my own addiction.
