It's always darkest before the dawn

Was listening to the Florence and the Machine song Shake it Up today. It's the song that comes into my head when I think of how hard recovery is but how worth it. My favorite lyric in it is 'It's always darkest before the dawn.' I think that pretty much sums up how I have found trying to recover. Especially after a recent relapse. I think that thought is one of the only things that has kept me going and kept me trying to be sober. Especially on the bad days or when I was detoxing. It can only get better and I am the only person who can chose that better life.

Finding it tough at the minute today though

Hi lynx. I like that song too.

We promise it gets better. You'll be coming out of the dark & into the sun. No more misery, you'll be free.

A Dark Night of the Soul experience is not the result of doing something wrong in God's eyes. It is the result of doing something right.

So many great recovery lyrics in that song.

"And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't.
There's always drinks in the dark at the end of my rope.
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope
Its a shot in the dark aimed right at my throat...

Looking for heaven found the devil in me..."

Lynx-That line went through my head anytime I felt angst in my early experience.

Try Ben Harper's entire album, "Diamonds on the Inside" - was great to listen to while speed walking and punching the air in the early days. Well it is a great album all around for anytime.

DIAMONDS ON THE INSIDE - song on album (all lyrics grew. here are some...)
[I]I knew a girl
Her name was truth
She was a horrible liar.

She couldnt spend one day alone
But she couldnt be satisfied.

When you have everything,
You have everything to lose.
She made herself
A bed of nails
And shes plannin' on puttin' it to use.

'Cos she had diamonds on the inside
She had diamonds on the inside
She had diamonds on the inside
Diamonds[/]

AMEN OMEN - another song on the album
What started as a whisper
Slowly turned into a scream.

WITHIN YOU - Ray LaMontagne, "Till the Sun Turns Black"
War is not the answer
The answer is within you

Hang in there...you might not believe so (I did not at the time) but a more peaceful feeling comes and it is true bliss. Everyone from SR told me...and it is true.
