Almost drank "at" my wife tonight

I actually contemplated drinking at my wife as she had all her girlfriends over and they were all drinking and having a good ole time. My wife drinks like once every 2 years and maybe half a beer then. I walked in the back yard and they had a cooler full of about 8 different kind of beers and were having fun as I was inside cleaning the house and keeping busy. She definitely deserves to have fun as she never does that and works hard. I just couldn't help thinking " well if you could drink, why can't i?" But I watched them as they drink and they would all nurse there beers and laugh and have fun. If that were me, the only thought in my mind would be how many of these beers can I drink without it being obvious. I take that back. I would also be thinking what the hell am I going to do when these beers run out. I'm so glad I made it thru and chose not to drink at anyone.

I too live with a "100% Social Drinker" wife.

I can't understand social drinkers at all.

Just as the booze is doing what it is designed to do..... They stop!!!!

Saying things like "Oh my, that glass of wine has gone straight to my head"...... "I think I better have an orange juice"

My mum drinks wine so slowly, I'm sure half the alcohol has evaporated by the time she finishes it.

Regardless.... One glass is ALWAYS enough.

Well done for recognising that you don't drink like that.

Stay on your path of sobriety.

The thought process you described there was mine exactly when I was drinking. Trying to drink as much as possible without people noticing was a little game I played frequently and it would consume my entire being whenever I was in a social situation.

It's great to realise that however fun it might seem to kick back with a few beers, the reality is never like that.

Glad you made it through mate.

I used to keep the beer in the garage. Some in the refrigerator out there, but most hidden. My routine used to be to go out to the garage to grab "one" cold one and shotgun 2 hot ones while I was out there so I was drinking 3 times what my wife or anyone else thought. Let me tell you, it's pretty embarrassing getting caught shotgunning a hot beer all by yourself like some partying frat brother when you're a 40 year old father of 3... Happened more than once... Madness...

I never understood social drinkers. I mean, what is the point. Alcohol doesn't tastes good. What it is designed to do, they stop before it does it. Mind boggling.
